What causes bad breath during pregnancy?

Due to the influence of growth hormone, many pregnant women's bodies undergo some changes during pregnancy, not only in body shape, but even in taste. Some expectant mothers have found that during pregnancy, every time they breathe, there will be a pungent smell in their mouths, which makes them afraid to speak to others. Bad breath caused during pregnancy also causes a lot of confusion for expectant mothers. So, what causes bad breath during pregnancy?

Causes of bad breath during pregnancy

1. Morning sickness

In the early stages of pregnancy, due to changes in the mother's body's growth hormone, there will be more or less changes in the taste buds and appetite, so morning sickness will be more common. Due to frequent vomiting, the expectant mother's breathing may become worse.

2. Dry mouth

Some expectant mothers are prone to dry mouth and thirst during pregnancy. For these expectant mothers, due to the reduced secretion of saliva, bacteria will accumulate in the mouth, which can easily lead to bad breath.

3. Front teeth problem

According to statistical analysis, 1/4 to 1/3 of expectant mothers will experience problems with their front teeth during pregnancy, mainly due to the influence of hormones during pregnancy. Common conditions include gingival edema, bleeding or loose teeth. When expectant mothers have these symptoms, the bacteria present on the surface of the teeth and gums will release unpleasant odors, causing bad breath.

4. Heavier taste

During pregnancy, the taste sensitivity of expectant mothers will decrease to a certain extent, so they are more sensitive to sour, spicy or more irritating and smelly foods. Therefore, some expectant mothers will choose foods with more obvious smells, such as garlic, chili peppers, onions, etc., and these foods can also cause bad breath problems in expectant mothers.
