What are the symptoms of blocked milk ducts?

Blocked milk ducts are a common condition during breastfeeding. Especially for mothers who secrete a large amount of milk, they are the main group suffering from blocked milk ducts. After the milk duct is blocked, it is very easy to have a fever, cysts, and eventually the breast will swell and pus will come out. Therefore, when the baby's appetite is relatively short, the mother should use a manual breast pump in time to suck out the unnecessary milk. Next, let’s learn about the symptoms of blocked milk ducts during breastfeeding.

1. There is not enough milk in the breasts, and the breasts feel slightly swollen.

2. The breasts are extremely painful. No matter what you do, the breast milk is stuck inside but you can’t let it out, and the baby can’t suck it out either.

3. I always feel that there is milk congestion or lumps in the breasts. Rubbing them will slightly relieve the pain, but it will still remain if I stop rubbing.

4. In the early stage after giving birth, the breasts still feel swollen and painful. Due to various reasons such as the baby not being around or getting angry or the baby not liking it, the breast milk becomes less and the swelling is no longer there.

5. The entire breast is painful and hard like a rock. No matter how you massage, apply heat, or suck, the pain is difficult to relieve. A manual breast pump is also useless and can easily cause the nipples to become dry and painful.

6. There is plenty of breast milk, but the breasts sometimes ache and are vaguely painful to the touch.

7. Breast milk deposition causes breast heat, which is the main symptom of mastitis.

8. There are lumps of certain size in the breast, which will drag when touched and feel painful when pressed lightly.

9. Breast milk deposition causes hard lumps in the breast that cannot be rubbed off no matter how hard you try. Sometimes there are lumps under the armpits that also cannot be rubbed off.

10. Failure to take timely care of the breasts during pregnancy, excessive sucking by the baby or use of a manual breast pump after birth, but insufficient breast milk, can cause nipple ulceration or cracking.
