What causes delayed menstruation?

Delayed menstruation is a very common condition for women. Generally speaking, the normal menstrual cycle is 28-35 days. If it is delayed by 1 to 7 days, it is normal. If it exceeds 7 days, you can use a test strip to test whether you are pregnant. If the test shows no pregnancy, female friends should pay attention at this time, as you may have a gynecological disease. So, what exactly causes delayed menstruation?

1. Pregnancy: If you are pregnant, your menstrual period will stop immediately. When the menstrual period is due, menstruation usually does not occur, and symptoms such as increased urination frequency, appetite changes, vomiting, and nausea occur. If the menstrual cycle has been normal, there has never been a sign of delay, and there are some symptoms of pregnancy, you should use an early pregnancy test to test your urine on the fifth day after your period is delayed (you can also calculate the fifth day from the beginning of your period). If it is positive, you should cooperate with a gynecological pelvic examination.

2. Taking emergency contraception: Long-term use of emergency contraception can cause endocrine imbalance and also lead to delayed menstruation. It is not recommended to take contraceptives unless absolutely necessary. If menstruation is delayed for more than a week after taking contraceptives, you should go to the hospital for medical treatment and do a pregnancy test to determine whether you are accidentally pregnant.

3. Excessive weight loss: Many girls love beauty and want to control their weight, so they take some weight loss drugs or go on a diet too much, which leads to delayed menstruation. Relevant expert studies have shown that the body fat of a young girl must be at least 17% of her body weight for her menarche to occur, and the body fat must be at least 22% of her body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting to lose weight will cause the body to lose a lot of body fat and protein due to insufficient energy intake, resulting in obstruction of estrogen production and a significant deficiency, affecting menarche, and even causing scant menstruation or amenorrhea. Therefore, ladies who pursue a slender figure should not blindly follow the trend of dieting to lose weight.

4. Mental reasons: Many women have heavy work goals, which causes mental tension, anxiety and excessive work pressure, which usually leads to delayed menstruation. A delayed period can sometimes be upsetting for women, and it may come as a surprise.
