Is it normal for women to have blood clots during menstruation?

Adult women usually have their menstrual period once a month. Many women find that there are a lot of blood clots in their menstrual blood during their periods. Most women don’t know why there are blood clots during their periods, let alone what it feels like to have blood clots. So what is the reason for having many blood clots during menstruation? What should I do?

1. What is the reason for excessive menstrual blood clots?

Menstruation is caused by the shedding of the endometrium. The shedding uterine wall mixes with blood to form menstruation. If there is a large amount of endometrial shedding and there are blood clots, it is a normal physiological condition. However, if the menstrual flow is heavy and there are a lot of blood clots during menstruation, it is blood stasis. When you have heavy menstruation, you can first consider taking Chinese medicine to promote blood circulation. However, after the bleeding stops, you can go to the local hospital for a detailed examination in time, mainly to rule out other causes of the disease.

Menstrual blood contains blood clots, which is related to bleeding and bleeding rate. If the bleeding is heavy and cannot keep up, it will coagulate into a blood clot and be discharged. The presence of blood clots usually means that the bleeding is heavy at this time, so it is concentrated into a clot. After menstruation, the endometrium will fall off, but it may be some fragments. The blood clots should still be supplied by the blood vessels of the uterine wall. In other words, the discharge of blood clots during menstruation indicates excessive menstrual flow.

In addition, the normal menstrual period lasts for 2 to 7 days, rarely 3 to 5 days. If the menstrual period lasts for more than 7 days, it is considered abnormal and should be taken seriously. Prolonged menstruation and heavy menstrual blood clots may be caused by low estrogen levels, uterine fibroids, polyps, uterine periostitis and contraceptive rings. Therefore, you need to go to the hospital's gynecology department for examination and diagnosis in order to use medication for treatment.

2. Causes of excessive blood clots during menstruation

(1) Qi stagnation and blood stasis: Qi is the commander of blood. When Qi moves, blood circulates. When Qi stagnates and blood stasis occurs, blood coagulates. If emotions are accumulated inside, liver fire is stagnant, and the Qi circulation is not good, then the flow will be blocked and a lump will form.

(2) Cold stagnation: "When the temperature is average, the blood is slippery, but when the air is cold, the blood is coagulated" and "When the blood is exposed to cold, it coagulates into lumps." Due to external wind, cold and dampness, or internal injury caused by eating cold food, or deficiency of yang and internal coldness in the body, the dampness will accumulate in the Chong and Ren meridians, and the blood will be coagulated by the cold and form lumps during menstruation.

(3) Qi deficiency: Excessive fatigue or long-term serious illness will damage the vital energy. Qi deficiency will make it difficult to transport blood and blood circulation will be slow, so menstruation will accumulate and form clots.

(4) Heat in the blood: due to external wind-cold-heat evil, or excessive consumption of spicy and hot food, or excessive use of medicines that warm the uterus, as well as emotional injury, the five emotions turn into heat, and the heat is hidden in the Chong and Ren meridians. The blood cannot withstand the heat evil and the menstruation comes in lumps.
