Chloroform is a colorless, transparent liquid with a special odor and a sweet taste. It is non-flammable, volatile, and sensitive to light. When exposed to light, it reacts with oxygen in the air and dissolves into toxic substances. Therefore, chloroform is listed as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer organized by the World Health Organization. In the pharmaceutical industry, chloroform is a volatile inhalation anesthetic with a very complex mechanism of action. It was first used for labor analgesia by British gynecologists in 1847. Since chloroform was easier to administer and control than medical ether at the time, it quickly became popular. However, studies have found that chloroform is harmful to the heart, liver, and kidneys. After inhalation or absorption through the skin, it can cause acute poisoning, with symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and mucous membrane irritation. Because of its serious side effects, it has long been replaced by newer anesthetics. Nowadays, chloroform is mostly used in industrial production to produce air-conditioning Freon, dyes and medicines. Physical and mental health damage: The main effect is on the central nervous system, it has an anesthetic effect, and is harmful to the heart, liver, and kidneys. Subacute poisoning: Acute poisoning caused by inhalation or absorption through the skin. In the early stages, there are symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, agitation, cold and damp skin, and mucous membrane irritation. Later, symptoms such as mental confusion, shallow breathing, decreased reflexes, coma, etc. may occur. In severe cases, respiratory numbness and atrial fibrillation may occur. It may also be accompanied by liver and kidney damage. If poisoning occurs by accident, there will be a burning sensation in the stomach, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Then came the symptoms of anesthesia. The liquid can cause dermatitis, eczema, and even skin burns. Chronic effects: Mainly cause liver damage, and also have symptoms such as indigestion, fatigue, headache, insomnia, etc., and rarely cause kidney damage and chloroform addiction. Environmental pollution: It is harmful to the natural environment and can cause environmental pollution to water quality. Explosion risk: This product is difficult to burn, harmful, an abnormal carcinogen, and irritant. Dangerous characteristics: When it comes into contact with fire or hot objects, it will produce toxic phosgene. Under the action of air, water and light, the acid value increases, which causes significant corrosion to metal materials. |
