Precautions and taboos for confinement

There are many things to pay attention to during the confinement period to prevent many sequelae in the future. The most important thing is to never go outside to be blown by the wind during the confinement period. This is very important. If you often go outside to be blown by the wind, you will get a cold and joint pain. These are some of the most common conditions during the confinement period. Also, do not wash your hair with cold water, be sure to use warm water to wipe your hair.

⒈ You should not be exposed to wind during confinement, because your Qi and blood will be weak, your muscles and bones will be loose, and wind, cold and dampness will easily take advantage of the opportunity to enter, causing colds, rheumatism, joint pain, diarrhea and other diseases. Because of the odor and bacterial transmission caused by changing diapers, it is necessary to open windows for ventilation. When ventilating, mothers need to avoid the wind. At the same time, it is also necessary to use diaper buckets to store used diapers to control the secondary spread of bacteria and odors that affect the baby's health.

⒉ When washing your hair, be sure to use warm water at 40 degrees Celsius and blow it dry as soon as possible, otherwise you will easily catch a cold. In modern environment, as long as you dry your hair immediately after washing or taking a bath or keep warm, moderate cleaning is beneficial to both parents and children. However, for a few women, the excretion of lochia will be affected once they come into contact with water. Therefore, if the mother has a lot of lochia in the first week, try not to wash her hair. Instead, use water boiled with mugwort, siler, and dried ginger to wipe the scalp, or use dry cleaning products for the head. When washing hands, vegetables, and baby bottles, it is best for mothers to rinse with warm water. Because all the meridians are empty after childbirth, wind and cold can easily pass through the joints and skin and accumulate in the body, causing headaches and joint pains in the future. Therefore, it is better to avoid cold water.

⒊ Do not cry or read a lot for a long time, otherwise it will damage your eyesight. Therefore, you should maintain the correct posture when reading, not read for too long, use sufficient light, and avoid reading sad, angry, or emotionally intense content. Most importantly, do not affect your rest, because without adequate rest, it is easy to cause bleeding, back pain, abdominal pain, and lack of energy.

⒋You can eat porridge, which is good for the stomach of the mother.

⒌ Do not eat raw or cold food. Because the postpartum body constitution is poor, poor absorption of raw and cold food can easily affect the body's recovery and affect the baby's stomach through breast milk.

Hakka women attach so much importance to confinement after childbirth, firstly, to “carry on the family line”, and secondly, because women are the main labor force in the family (in the old days, rural women were mainly engaged in agricultural production), and they must be ensured to pass the confinement period well, not to weaken their physical constitution, and certainly not to leave any root of disease. Because of this, in Hakka rural areas, many women in their seventies and eighties have strong backs and nimble hands and feet and can still engage in major rural labor.
