How to treat functional uterine bleeding

How to treat functional uterine bleeding

In our lives, functional uterine bleeding requires the treatment of instrumental curettage and drug curettage. The instrumental curettage is for women over 40 years old, and after curettage, you need to rest for a week before you can work. It is mainly used to scrape out polyps and endometrium in the uterus to achieve the effect of hemostasis. So you can learn about the treatment methods for functional uterine bleeding.

What are the treatments for functional uterine bleeding?

1. Instrumental curettage: Many people have heard of the "curettage" method of stopping bleeding. Curettage is a minor operation that can be performed in an outpatient clinic, generally using local anesthesia. Under sterile conditions, the doctor inserts a small scraper into the uterine cavity to scrape it, using mechanical methods to quickly remove the proliferating endometrium, thereby achieving the purpose of stopping bleeding. Although this method is somewhat painful, it stops bleeding quickly, is safe, and the effect is generally reliable. More importantly, the scraped endometrium can be collected and sent to the pathology department for testing to determine whether there are other diseases such as polyps and tumors, which is of value in making a clear diagnosis.

Therefore, for married patients with long-term irregular bleeding, especially those over 40 years old, curettage should be used to stop bleeding. However, if the patient has undergone curettage recently and pathological examination shows no organic disease, there is no need to repeat the curettage. Bleeding usually decreases immediately after curettage and stops completely within about a week. Generally you need to rest for about 7 days before going back to work.

2. Medical curettage: For unmarried patients, try not to consider curettage, or use medical curettage instead. Medical curettage is aimed at the pathophysiological changes caused by the lack of progesterone in patients with anovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Progesterone is injected intramuscularly into the patient, 20 mg per day, for 3 days, and the endometrium is transformed into the secretory phase. The drug is then discontinued, causing an artificial drop in blood progesterone levels. At this time, the endometrium is regularly exfoliated and bleeding occurs, which is called "withdrawal bleeding". This bleeding is similar to a menstrual period and lasts for about 7 days. Sometimes the amount is large, which is expected and inevitable.

3. Estrogen hemostasis method: If a young, unmarried patient with functional uterine bleeding suffers from severe anemia (hemoglobin <7.0 g/L) due to excessive blood loss or other problems, and curettage surgery is not available at the time, and the patient cannot accept the withdrawal bleeding caused by the "drug curettage" described above, such patients should be hospitalized.

Functional uterine bleeding is mainly caused by endocrine system disorders, so in daily life, we should pay attention to increasing nutrition and eat more protein-rich foods, vegetables and fruits. During the menstrual period, the body's resistance is weak. Do not eat raw, cold, spicy or irritating foods. Eat foods containing protein and vitamins regularly. Combine work and rest in your life, avoid heavy physical work and strenuous activities, get enough sleep, and stay in a good spirit.
