When is the best time to check pregnancy test nt

The best time to do a prenatal check-up is at 12 weeks. At this time, the doctor will choose the last skin of the fetus's neck for examination. The nuchal translucency can be used to determine whether the fetus is alive or dead, whether there are any deformities, and whether the fetus has Down syndrome. The NT examination is an examination method that every pregnant woman needs to undergo, especially older mothers, and the examination results are more accurate.

When is the best time to do NT scan?

1. It is difficult to observe the nuchal translucency because the fetus is too small before 11 weeks of pregnancy. After 14 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus gradually develops and may absorb excess body fluid from the nuchal translucency, affecting the test results. Therefore, it is best for pregnant women to do NT within 11-14 weeks of pregnancy to avoid inaccurate test results.

2. The nuchal translucency scan is usually performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It is technically difficult to perform an NT examination before 11 weeks because the fetus is still too small. After 14 weeks, the water accumulated under the fetus's skin may be absorbed by the developing lymphatic system, making it impossible to obtain accurate test data. Therefore, pregnant women need to go to the hospital for NT examination within 11-14 weeks of pregnancy. Generally, nuchal translucency scan can be performed in tertiary hospitals or large specialized obstetrics and gynecology hospitals.

Necessity of NT examination

1. In my country, doctors generally recommend nuchal translucency scans for people at high risk of Down syndrome, such as pregnant women over 35 years old, those who have given birth to a baby with Down syndrome, or those with a family history of giving birth to a baby with Down syndrome. Although a nuchal translucency scan cannot determine definitively whether the fetus is infected, it can help pregnant women decide whether further diagnostic testing is needed.

2. Nuchal translucency scanning is a method to assess whether the fetus may have Down syndrome and is a screening method. The NT test is different from diagnostic tests such as chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis. They can provide a definite diagnosis, but the NT test can only indicate the risk.

3. The accuracy of the nuchal translucency examination is determined by many factors, including the level of the ultrasound physician and the accuracy of the scanner used, so the examination results cannot be guaranteed to be 100% accurate.

4. The NT examination can only provide a reference for whether further prenatal diagnosis is needed. The ultrasound screening results cannot be used to determine whether the fetus is abnormal. To determine whether the fetus has chromosomal abnormalities, further chromosomal analysis is still required through chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis.
