Can I eat spicy food during menstruation?

Menstruation is familiar to every woman. The few days of menstruation every month are a period of weakness and pain for girls. Every girl will have dysmenorrhea to a greater or lesser extent. Some girls with severe dysmenorrhea can basically only lie in bed. Even if the dysmenorrhea is not severe, they will have difficulty concentrating. Because every girl has a different physique, what they can do and eat during menstruation is also different.

It is well known that women should not eat spicy food during their menstrual period. If women eat spicy food during their menstrual period, it is more likely to cause a series of problems such as dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, and irregular menstruation. In fact, from a health point of view, women should not only not eat spicy food during their menstrual period, but there are also many foods that are taboo for women during their menstrual period.

1. Raw and cold foods: In traditional Chinese medicine, raw and cold foods are not to be eaten during menstruation, otherwise it is very easy to cause dysmenorrhea and irregular menstruation. This is because raw and cold foods can easily cause menstrual disorders and affect the normal circulation of menstrual blood. If the menstrual blood is flowing smoothly, there will be no pain, but if it is blocked, there will be pain. Blocked menstrual blood flow is more likely to cause dysmenorrhea. Therefore, if you eat cool foods such as pears, bananas, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, persimmons, crabs, etc. on a regular basis, they can have the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, nourishing yin and reducing fire. But it is a taboo for women during menstruation.

2. Hot food: Hot food can be understood as warm food. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that women should not eat hot foods during menstruation. Because hot blood causes blood to flow wildly, if women eat too much hot food during menstruation, it is easy to cause excessive menstrual bleeding, which may aggravate anemia over time. Therefore, it is recommended not to eat hot foods such as dog meat, mutton, and peppers during menstruation.

3. Acidic food: Some women may have loss of appetite due to changes in physiological hormones, so they will choose some acidic foods to help stimulate their appetite. In fact, sour foods will also reduce the amount of menstrual blood in women and make it more likely to cause menstrual problems. Therefore, it is recommended not to eat sour foods such as lemon, vinegar, and hawthorn during menstruation.
