Reasons for failure of artificial insemination

Reasons for failure of artificial insemination

The success rate of artificial insemination can be as high as 70%, but there is still a phenomenon of fertilization failure. First of all, the poor quality of the extracted eggs and sperm is a factor that affects the fertilization of the fertilized egg. In addition, the mother's uterine environment is not satisfactory for the development of the fertilized egg, which will also cause the fertilized egg to be discharged. The doctor's skills are also a factor that affects fertilization. Therefore, if you want artificial insemination to be successful, you need to ensure that both parties' bodies are in the best condition to remove the eggs and sperm.

What is Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination is a technique that uses non-sexual intercourse methods to help sperm into the female reproductive tract to achieve conception, and is mainly used for male infertility. There are two types of insemination: artificial insemination using husband's sperm (AIH) and artificial insemination using donor sperm (AID). If the male has sexual organ abnormalities, such as short penis, hypospadias, impotence, premature ejaculation, etc., or the female has cervical stenosis, unexplained infertility, etc., artificial insemination can be used between spouses. Artificial insemination is suitable for:

1. Artificial insemination is mainly used for infertility caused by male factors, such as severe hypospadias, retrograde ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, azoospermia, oligospermia, asthenospermia, and semen liquefaction disorder.

2. Artificial insemination can also be used for some female-related infertility, such as vaginismus, small cervix, abnormal cervical mucus, poor post-coital test, etc.

3. In addition, there are some special cases, such as infertility due to immunological reasons, where both husband and wife are heterozygous for the same chromosomal dominant genetic disease or the male suffers from an autosomal dominant genetic disease, artificial insemination can also be used to achieve pregnancy and avoid the birth of unhealthy offspring.

What are the reasons for the failure of artificial insemination?

1. The main indication for artificial insemination is the poor quality of the male's sperm. If the male's sperm count is too small and the sperm does not liquefy, the success rate of artificial insemination will be reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to use drug treatment under the guidance of a doctor to improve the quality of sperm, so as to avoid the failure of artificial insemination.

2. In addition to being related to the quality of the male's sperm, the female's uterine environment is not suitable for embryo transplantation, which will also reduce the success rate. Infertility caused by factors such as endometritis, uterine adhesions, endometrial polyps, and foreign body residues in the uterine cavity will significantly reduce the success rate of artificial insemination. Therefore, it is necessary to go to a regular hospital for hysteroscopy diagnosis and correction to solve this problem.

3. Fallopian tube abnormalities and abdominal adhesions will affect the combination of sperm and eggs. Fallopian tube abnormalities include fallopian tube obstruction, fallopian tube malformation and fallopian tube hydrops, etc. The most common abdominal adhesion is chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. Therefore, patients with this type of problem need to be treated with the help of laparoscopy.

Note:

In addition to the two most common factors mentioned above, there are many other reasons for the failure of artificial insemination, such as the presence of anti-sperm antibodies in the male or female body, no ovulation after artificial insemination, and incorrect timing of artificial insemination, which can all cause the failure of artificial insemination. Only by scientifically finding the causes can the pregnancy rate be improved.
