Uterine fibroids 5 cm

Uterine fibroids 5 cm

The health of the reproductive system is an important part of women's physical health, and problems with the reproductive system will bring many troubles to women, causing threats to women's life safety, etc. For example, uterine fibroids are one of the diseases that endanger women's health and are very common in modern life. Can surgery be performed on a 5-centimeter uterine fibroid? Let’s take a look at the explanation below, I hope you can understand it.

Generally speaking, most uterine fibroids with a diameter of more than 5 cm require surgical treatment. However, whether surgery is needed depends on examination. We cannot just look at the size of the fibroid. Even if the fibroid is smaller than this, if there is infection, ulcer, inflammation or degeneration, surgical treatment is required. Therefore, for 5 cm fibroids, surgical treatment is generally recommended to prevent the fibroids from growing bigger and causing greater harm.

If you want to treat uterine fibroids surgically, you can choose the appropriate surgical method according to the situation. The main surgical methods are:

(1) Myomectomy. It means only removing the uterine fibroids and retaining the uterus. Generally, this method can be chosen by women under 40 who wish to retain their fertility. Myomectomy can be chosen for patients with larger fibroids, heavy menstrual flow with compression symptoms, or fast-growing fibroids without malignant changes.

(2) Hysterectomy. It is mainly suitable for patients with obvious symptoms and the possibility of malignant transformation but no fertility requirements. Hysterectomy can be chosen. However, hysterectomy is divided into total hysterectomy or subtotal hysterectomy. Generally, total hysterectomy is more appropriate for older patients. It depends on the patient's condition.

In addition to surgical treatment, focused ultrasound treatment can also be used for uterine fibroids of five centimeters. This method can be chosen for symptomatic uterine fibroids. This treatment has no surgical scars and recovery is quick after treatment. However, there may also be some adverse consequences, such as skin burns, hematuria, etc., so choose with caution.
