Four months after giving birth, lochia recurred

I believe that every woman who has experienced childbirth knows that after giving birth, lochia will appear on the female body. Although lochia looks very disgusting, it has a great impact on the female body. Only when the lochia is completely discharged from the uterus can it avoid causing many effects on the body. If the lochia is not discharged cleanly, it can lead to systemic infection, sepsis and other diseases. But is it normal for lochia to recur 4 months after giving birth?

Is it normal to have lochia sometimes or sometimes not 4 months after giving birth?

It is abnormal to have intermittent lochia 4 months after delivery. Normal lochia lasts 4-6 weeks, bloody lochia lasts 3-7 days, serous lochia lasts 2 weeks, and white lochia lasts 2-3 weeks and then stops. Under normal circumstances, lochia can continue for 1 to 2 months after delivery, and for most women, lochia stops after 1 month. The specific time for lochia to be discharged is as follows.

1. Bloody lochia is bright red in color and contains a large amount of blood, sometimes with small blood clots. There is a small amount of fetal membrane and necrotic decidual tissue. Bloody lochia lasts for 3 to 4 days, the amount of uterine bleeding gradually decreases, the serous fluid increases, and it turns into serous lochia.

2. Light red in color and contains a lot of serous fluid. There is a small amount of blood, but there is a large amount of necrotic decidual tissue, cervical mucus, uterine exudate, and bacteria. Serous lochia lasts for about 10 days, the serous fluid gradually decreases, the white blood cells increase, and the lochia turns into white lochia.

3. White lochia, sticky and white in color. Contains a large number of white blood cells, necrotic tissue decidua, epidermal cells and bacteria. The white lochia lasted for 3 weeks.

Normal lochia has a bloody smell but no odor, lasts for 4 to 6 weeks, and the total amount is about 250ml-500ml, with large individual differences. By observing the lochia, paying attention to changes in its quality and quantity, color and odor, as well as the state of uterine recovery, you can understand whether the uterine recovery is normal.

The harm of postpartum lochia

The harm of repeated postpartum lochia is that prolonged postpartum lochia can lead to local and systemic infections, and in severe cases, sepsis may occur. Prolonged lochia can also cause infection, dehiscence or poor healing of the incision, and even require hysterectomy. The most important thing to pay attention to when lochia is prolonged is that the most likely thing to happen is late postpartum hemorrhage or even massive hemorrhage and shock, which endangers the life of the mother. Therefore, natural childbirth is recommended.

The presence of postpartum lochia indicates that the mother's uterus is not recovering well. There are many reasons for the continued lochia, including pathological reasons and improper postpartum conditioning. Excessive fatigue of the mother, lack of adequate rest, improper diet, and eating greasy food too early can all lead to the failure to discharge lochia in time.

The common pathological cause of lochia retention is uterine infection. This symptom can also be caused by the presence of products of pregnancy remaining in the uterus during delivery. The most serious situation is the complication of choriocarcinoma, so if lochia is not clear after caesarean section, you must seek medical treatment in time.

Anemia can cause lochia to last longer and your body to recover more slowly. Some expectant mothers may experience anemia during pregnancy. If the condition persists after delivery, lochia may last for a long time and the body may recover more slowly. Therefore, expectant mothers should pay attention to iron supplementation during pregnancy to prevent anemia.
