What tests should be done for twins?

Twins are an event with a relatively low probability. For women who are pregnant with twins, their belly will be relatively bigger, but not too obvious. Friends who are pregnant with twins also need to be careful when undergoing routine check-ups. After all, there are two fetuses in the belly, so the examination may need to be more rigorous. You can follow the doctor's advice for specific circumstances.

Can ultrasound show twins at a few months?

Generally, we can tell whether it is twins around eight weeks of pregnancy. Through B-ultrasound examination, we can directly detect two gestational sacs around 8 weeks of pregnancy. After 13 weeks, the two fetal head halos can be clearly seen, and their trunks, limbs, etc. can also be found. If there are no special circumstances, it is recommended to do less ultrasound examinations.

The ultrasound examinations your doctor will perform include:

Chorionic villus scan: Women need to undergo a chorionic villus scan between 12 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. We need to identify whether the twins use one placenta or separate placentas.

Nuchal translucency scan: If Down syndrome screening is required, a nuchal translucency scan will generally be done before 14 weeks. If you are pregnant with twins, blood tests done around 20 weeks of pregnancy are not very accurate.

Developmental ultrasound scan: In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, doctors will also ask such pregnant women to do ultrasound scans so that we can determine whether the baby is developing normally. Because the measurement of uterine height for monitoring the development of one baby is not suitable for two babies. If a placenta is shared, we will need to do an ultrasound scan every 2 to 4 weeks, and everyone must go to the hospital on time.

Generally, we can find out whether the baby is twins around eight weeks of pregnancy, and we can clearly see the baby's torso and limbs around 13 weeks. After discovering that they are pregnant with twins, most female friends will be ecstatic, but everyone must also remember that being pregnant with twins is much more dangerous than a single baby, so everyone must cooperate with the doctor to do a good job of examination.
