What to do if your nipple is broken while breastfeeding

It has to be said that being a mother is an extremely difficult process, because during pregnancy, women have to face various changes and uncomfortable reactions in their bodies. During the breastfeeding period after giving birth, women still have to feed their babies every day, and may even have breast problems. Among them, nipple cracking is a problem that many women will face during breastfeeding. As an absolutely fragile area, nipple cracking will cause overall breast pain. So what should be done about nipple cracking during breastfeeding?

What to do if the nipple is broken while breastfeeding

One of the more common breast diseases in lactating mothers is nipple fissures. In mild cases of nipple fissures, only cracks will appear on the surface of the nipple. In severe cases, there will be local exudation and bleeding. Over time, ulcers are likely to form repeatedly, and improper treatment can easily cause mastitis. If nipple rupture occurs, in addition to paying attention to the posture of mother and baby during breastfeeding, you should apply warm compresses to the breasts before breastfeeding, massage and squeeze out a small amount of milk to soften the areola.

How to take care of a broken nipple while breastfeeding

When breastfeeding, you should start with the breast that hurts less. This will reduce the strength of the baby's sucking on the other breast, and the nipple and part of the areola will be sucked in the baby's mouth to prevent the nipple skin from becoming more chapped. Be sure to change the position in which you hold your baby while feeding, so that you can distribute the strength of your baby's feeding.

Breastfeed frequently to facilitate milk emptying and soften the areola, making it easier for the baby to suck. After feeding your baby, be sure to squeeze out some milk and apply it on the nipples and areola. Expose and dry the nipples briefly, preferably near a window in sunlight. Because breast milk has antibacterial effects and is rich in protein, it is beneficial to the healing of nipple skin.

There are some common problems in life that many people don’t know how to deal with. For example, mothers often experience broken nipples during breastfeeding, but they don’t know how to solve the problem in a way that would be good for themselves and their babies. But there is no need to worry too much. As long as you follow the above methods, you will soon get relief.
