The reason why my period has been delayed

Women's menstruation has always been an important phenomenon that affects women's lives. It is also a physiological phenomenon necessary for physical health. It plays a great role in affecting the female reproductive system. Women's menstruation generally occurs according to a certain pattern. Therefore, each woman can calculate the relevant time of menstruation according to her own method. Let’s take a look at the reasons why women’s periods are always delayed.

Pregnant:

For women of childbearing age who have had sexual life, when their menstruation is delayed, they often doubt whether it is menstruation abnormality or they are pregnant. This problem is a very common phenomenon in daily life.

Side effects of medications

Endocrine disorders after long-term use of contraceptives can also cause delayed menstruation. Doctors also found, based on patient feedback, that a new generation of gastric motility drug, metoclopramide, also known as domperidone, may also cause this condition. Since metoclopramide does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, it is believed that it has no inhibitory effect on central dopamine receptors. Central dopamine receptors are inhibited, resulting in a decrease in the amount of hypothalamic release factors entering the anterior pituitary. As a result, the anterior pituitary secretes less gonadotropin and corticotropin, leading to amenorrhea and delayed ovulation.

Surgery

(1) Menstruation after surgical or medical abortion is determined by the degree of recovery of the endometrial wall, which may cause menstruation to be delayed to a large extent.

(2) Intrauterine surgery may cause cervical adhesions, which may lead to menstrual blood stasis and thus delay menstruation.

Irregular living habits

According to research, when women are exposed to cold during menstruation, the blood vessels in the pelvis will contract excessively, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea. Therefore, women should have a regular daily life, avoid excessive fatigue, and especially keep away from cold and damp during menstruation.

Emotional abnormalities

Long-term mental depression, sulking, or severe mental stimulation and psychological trauma can all lead to menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, or amenorrhea. This is because menstruation is caused by the stimulation of the endometrium by hormones secreted by the ovaries, and the hormones secreted by the ovaries are controlled by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Therefore, any abnormality in the function of the ovaries, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus will affect menstruation.
