Can pregnancy be detected during menstruation?

Many women who are planning to have a baby will regularly test whether they are pregnant or not. Of course, there are many things to pay attention to when doing an early pregnancy test. For example, many people want to know whether they can detect pregnancy during menstruation. In fact, if a woman's menstrual period is normal, it means that she is not pregnant, so naturally the pregnancy cannot be detected. Next, I will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about early pregnancy tests!

1. Pregnancy test time

The working principle of early pregnancy self-test is to detect the HCG value, that is, the value of human chorionic gonadotropin. This hormone is produced by the placenta and usually appears in the urine a few days after pregnancy. However, due to the small amount, it is difficult to test it at the beginning. It will not become increasingly obvious until 10 to 14 days. Although many types of early pregnancy test strips indicate that women can do a pregnancy self-test one day after missing their normal menstrual period, in fact, not all pregnant women emit HCG hormones at the same rate and in the same amount. This varies from person to person. If a urine test is done too early, a negative result may be false. Therefore, the best time to do an early pregnancy test is two weeks after your period is late, so that the result will be more accurate.

You can detect whether you are pregnant 18 days after having sex or if your period is delayed by 7-10 days. Because after the sperm and egg combine to form a fertilized egg, it takes 6-8 days for the endometrium to implant, and then 7-10 days for the HCG secreted by the placenta to enter the urine. Adding the two together, it is scientific to test whether you are pregnant from the urine 18 days after having sex. Pregnancy can be detected at the earliest seven days after sexual intercourse, usually around fourteen days, and occasionally more than twenty days. The diagnosis can be confirmed by self-test strips or HCG testing in the hospital.

2. Precautions for early pregnancy test

1. If the early pregnancy test paper you purchased is stored for too long (more than 1 year), or if the early pregnancy test paper is damp and not kept at normal room temperature (should not be refrigerated), it may become invalid and a false negative test result may occur.

2. If the pregnancy has just begun, or there is a possibility of ectopic pregnancy, the HCG level in the body is generally low. The test sample needs to be left to stand for more than 3 minutes (usually only 1 minute), and it is necessary to carefully identify whether there is a weak positive - the color band in the test area only appears faintly.

3. After 3 months of pregnancy, HCG levels decrease and urine tests may sometimes be negative or weakly positive.

4. In extreme cases, such as hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma, the HCG level in the body will be too high and the urine test will not show a positive result.

3. Methods to improve the accuracy of early pregnancy tests

1. Pay attention to the production date on the packaging box and do not use expired test cards, because chemical agents will become ineffective over time.

2. In order to improve the accuracy of early pregnancy tests, read the instructions for use of the test card carefully before going to the bathroom for specific operations, and then follow the instructions carefully.

3. Trust your body. If your symptoms tell you that you are pregnant or not pregnant, no matter what the self-test results are, you should consider that self-testing may be wrong, and it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up. Symptoms of early pregnancy include: nausea and vomiting, fatigue, frequent urination, breast swelling, picky eating, drowsiness, etc.

4. If the self-test result is negative and menstruation still does not come after 1 week, you should do the self-test again. If it is not negative, it is best to see a doctor.
