What to do if you have severe anemia in late pregnancy

It is very common for pregnant women to have anemia. Generally, in the third trimester, the baby has fully developed and the amount of blood supply required is usually the highest.

It is very easy for pregnant women to suffer from anemia in the late pregnancy. Anemia in the late pregnancy must be taken seriously. If anemia is not improved in time, it can easily affect the health of pregnant women and may also cause premature birth and other phenomena.

What to do if you have severe anemia in late pregnancy?

First of all, we need to distinguish the type of anemia and its severity. If it is iron deficiency anemia, it is best to treat it with medication. But don't worry, these drugs are essential elements for the human body and will not affect the fetus, such as iron sulfate, iron gluconate, and iron fumarate. If it is megaloblastic anemia, it is basically treated with medication, such as folic acid and Vc treatment. If it is aplastic anemia, it can be treated with red blood cell and platelet transfusions. If it is sickle cell anemia, if there is no danger period, diet therapy will do. If it is in the danger period, it is best to be hospitalized.

Anemia in pregnant women is mainly caused by malnutrition and folic acid deficiency, and a very small part is caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are both important coenzymes in the synthesis of DNA. Folic acid itself is inactive, and it is tetrahydrofolate that acts as a coenzyme. Tetrahydrofolate is produced from dihydrofolate by the action of folate reductase. It is very unstable and easily oxidized. Therefore, this disease can occur in any situation that blocks the production of tetrahydrofolate and causes folic acid metabolism disorders. When it is deficient, DNA synthesis is impaired and various tissues throughout the body may be affected, but the hematopoietic tissue is most seriously affected, causing erythrocyte proliferation and maturation disorders and the appearance of morphologically and functionally abnormal megaloblasts in the bone marrow. These abnormal megaloblasts have a shorter lifespan than normal and are often destroyed prematurely, which is also a factor in causing anemia.

In addition to eating red dates to replenish blood, pregnant women with anemia can also eat more of the following foods to replenish blood.

1. Donkey-hide gelatin The main components of donkey-hide gelatin are various proteins, amino acids and calcium, which can promote the formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, improve blood calcium balance and bone hematopoietic function. Eating it can help pregnant women replenish blood and calm the fetus.

2. Pork liver Pork liver is rich in iron, phosphorus and other raw materials necessary for human blood production. It can improve and correct iron deficiency anemia and is a good blood tonic during pregnancy.

3. Red beans are rich in iron. Pregnant women often eat them, which can not only prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia, but also have a nourishing and strong tonic effect and enhance milk secretion.

4. Black fungus Black fungus has the effects of invigorating qi and blood, moistening the lungs and calming the nerves, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. It can effectively prevent iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women and is a good blood tonic.

Although red dates have good nutritional value, the effect of eating them alone is minimal. It is recommended that pregnant women eat red dates by drinking red dates extract or eating red dates with raisins, longans and other foods, or eating some stews made with red dates. The effect will be more effective than eating red dates alone.
