The difference between miscarriage and dysmenorrhea

The difference between miscarriage and dysmenorrhea

The biggest similarity between miscarriage and dysmenorrhea is that they both cause pain in the lower body, but the difference between the two is essential. During pregnancy, the last thing pregnant women want to encounter is miscarriage. In addition to bleeding, the most obvious sign after miscarriage is pain. Therefore, many people want to know the difference between the two so as to distinguish them. So, what is the difference between miscarriage and dysmenorrhea? Let’s take a look below.

There is a difference between dysmenorrhea and miscarriage pain. Dysmenorrhea is a common and frequently occurring gynecological disease with multiple causes, complex pathogenesis, high recurrence rate and difficult treatment, especially among unmarried young women and girls in the early stages of menstruation. It manifests as periodic lower abdominal distension, cold pain, burning pain, tingling, dull pain, heaviness, colic, spasmodic pain and tearing pain during or before and after menstruation. The pain extends to the sacrum, lumbar back and even to the thighs and feet, and is often accompanied by systemic symptoms: breast tenderness, anal distension, chest tightness and irritability, sadness and irritability, palpitations and insomnia, headache and dizziness, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea, fatigue, pale complexion, cold limbs, cold sweats, collapse and fainting. The high incidence, wide range, close cycle and great pain have seriously affected the work and study of many women and reduced their quality of life.

Before miscarriage, there is no abdominal pain at first, but only a very light bleeding. After a few days, the stomach will start to hurt and the blood will be bright red. This is a symptom of miscarriage. Early miscarriage first causes vaginal bleeding, which occurs within 12 weeks of pregnancy. At the beginning, the chorion and decidua separate, the blood sinuses open, and bleeding begins. The detached embryo and blood then stimulate the uterus to contract, expel the embryo, and cause paroxysmal lower abdominal pain. When the embryo is completely expelled, the uterus contracts, the blood sinuses close, and the bleeding stops; the clinical course of late abortion is similar to that of premature and full-term births, with paroxysmal abdominal pain first and then vaginal bleeding.

The difference between different types of miscarriage and menstruation

Incomplete miscarriage: It is an inevitable miscarriage in which the fetus has been delivered, but part or all of the placenta remains in the uterine cavity. The difference between threatened abortion and menstruation is that the uterus contracts, vaginal bleeding increases, and even heavy bleeding may cause shock.

Complete abortion: The fetus and placenta are completely expelled, the difference between threatened abortion and menstruation, bleeding stops, and abdominal pain disappears.

Threatened abortion: only a small amount of vaginal bleeding, accompanied by lower abdominal pain and lower back pain. Threatened abortion and menstruation can be distinguished by doing a vaginal examination.

Inevitable miscarriage: It is the further development of threatened miscarriage. Threatened miscarriage and vaginal miscarriage can be distinguished by the amount of vaginal bleeding. Inevitable miscarriage has vaginal bleeding that exceeds the amount of menstruation, and lower abdominal cramps are aggravated.
