Is it normal for the placenta to attach to the back wall of the uterus?

Is it normal for the placenta to attach to the back wall of the uterus?

When a woman becomes pregnant, it means that the fetus in her body will begin to develop. When it develops to a certain extent, the placenta will appear. For the fetus, the placenta is a tool that connects it to the mother, so it is very important. Clinically, there are some diseases related to the placenta, so pregnant women must pay attention to prevention. So, is it normal for the placenta to attach to the back wall of the uterus?

The placenta is located on the front wall of the uterus

The placenta is attached to the uterus and receives nutrients and oxygen for the baby inside. If it becomes abnormal or aged, it will directly affect the baby's growth and development, and even endanger the baby's life.

In a normal pregnancy, the placenta is attached to the anterior, posterior, or lateral wall of the uterus. If the placenta is partially or completely attached to the lower part of the uterus or covers the internal cervix, it is called placenta previa.

Therefore, anterior placenta is the normal position of the placenta attached to the uterus and is a normal pregnancy. Pregnant mothers with anterior placenta, don’t worry.

What are the symptoms of the placenta located on the anterior wall of the uterus?

Painless, recurrent vaginal bleeding in late pregnancy or during labor is the main symptom of placenta previa, which occasionally occurs at 20 weeks of pregnancy. The early or late occurrence of vaginal bleeding, the number of recurrences, and the amount of bleeding are closely related to the type of placenta previa. The first bleeding of complete placenta previa often occurs early, around 28 weeks of pregnancy, and the bleeding is frequent and the amount is large. Sometimes a single large amount of bleeding can put the patient into shock. The first bleeding of marginal placenta previa occurs later, usually between 37 and 40 weeks of pregnancy or after delivery, and the amount is also less. The time of first bleeding and the amount of bleeding of partial placenta previa are between the two.

With each contraction after labor, the lower segment of the uterus is pulled upward and bleeding often increases. In patients with partial and marginal placenta previa, if the fetal presenting part can descend quickly after rupture of membranes and directly compress the placenta, bleeding can stop. Rupture of membranes facilitates compression of the placenta by the presenting fetus. Due to repeated or heavy vaginal bleeding, the mother may develop anemia, the degree of which is proportional to the amount of bleeding. Severe bleeding may cause shock, and the fetus may suffer from hypoxia, distress, and even death.

Is it normal for the placenta to be located on the anterior wall of the uterus?

The placenta is located on the anterior wall of the uterus, which is the normal position for the placenta to attach and is considered a normal pregnancy.

If the placenta is attached to the lower part of the uterus, or even the edge of the placenta reaches or covers the internal os of the cervix, and its position is lower than the presenting part, it is called placenta previa. Placenta previa is a condition in which the placenta attaches to the lower segment of the uterus after 28 weeks of pregnancy, with its lower edge even reaching or covering the internal os of the cervix and its position lower than the fetal presenting part.

Placenta previa is one of the main causes of bleeding in late pregnancy and a serious complication during pregnancy.

However, anterior placenta and placenta previa are two different things. If the pregnant mother has anterior placenta, there is no need to worry, as it is a normal phenomenon.
