What causes nipple enlargement?

Women's nipples are generally much larger than men's, and women's nipples are also much more fragile than men's. Moreover, female nipples are also an important food organ for newborn babies after birth. Many breastfeeding women will find that their nipples become swollen for no apparent reason. And this swelling will be accompanied by a certain pain, so what are the causes of a woman's nipple swelling?

Causes of breast pain:

Breast pain is partly due to the stimulation of the breast glands by estrogen and progesterone, which causes breast swelling, and sometimes nipple pain and transparent discharge. This usually occurs before menstruation and disappears after menstruation ends.

Some people may experience irregular swelling and pain. This type of breast pain does not necessarily mean breast tumors. Even if you can feel a breast lump, it does not necessarily mean breast cancer. Because breast cancer rarely causes pain and other obvious symptoms in the early stages, it can only be diagnosed through breast self-examination and breast X-ray examinations. Pain will only occur when breast cancer has grown large enough to invade the nerves around the chest wall. Therefore, most occasional breast pain can be treated with regular medical examinations and there is no need to be too anxious.

Some swellings, pains or lumps are initially diagnosed as breast tumors. Most of these breast tumors are benign, but they may also be the precursors to breast cancer:

Breast fibrocystic: This is the most common benign breast tumor, mostly occurring in women over 30 years old, often multiple and bilateral breasts, with swelling and tenderness, and more severe symptoms before menstruation.

Breast fibroadenoma: It is common in women around 20 years old. The breasts will feel hard, but there will be no tenderness.

Enlarged milk ducts: It is often found in women around 40 years old. The nipples on both sides will secrete some sticky liquid. The patient will have a burning sensation and dull pain in the areola. When palpating, curved and enlarged milk ducts will be found under the areola.
