Endometrial stratification

Endometrial stratification

Maybe many female friends don’t know that the endometrium has three layers, nor do they know the possible impacts caused by the stratification of the endometrium. So in order to increase everyone’s understanding of the endometrium, you can learn about the following content. The endometrium is the place where the fertilized egg successfully conceives. If endometrial stratification occurs, it will lead to failure to successfully conceive, so we should know the treatment methods for endometrial stratification.

The endometrium is divided into three layers: the compact layer, the spongy layer, and the basal layer. The dense layer and spongy layer of the 2/3 endometrial surface are collectively called the functional layer, which are shed periodically under the influence of ovarian sex hormones. The basal layer is the 1/3 of the endometrium close to the myometrium. It is not affected by ovarian hormones and does not undergo cyclical changes.

Normal endometrial thickening occurs when follicles develop and mature in the ovaries during the ovarian cycle. Under the action of estrogen secreted by the ovaries, the blood supply to the endometrium is enhanced, and a gradual thickening phenomenon, namely the proliferative endometrium, occurs. The thickening of the endometrium provides good conditions for the implantation of the fertilized egg and the growth and development of the embryo.

If the endometrium cannot shed and grow normally, and the normal degeneration and necrosis of tissues are hindered, it will cause excessive thickening of the endometrium, which will be unfavorable for the implantation of the fertilized egg and the growth and development of the embryo, thus causing infertility.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the inability of the endometrium to shed and grow normally is due to deficiency of both Qi and blood. Qi deficiency leads to insufficient power and the endometrium cannot be shed normally. Blood deficiency causes the endometrium to not grow normally. Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine believes that the way to deal with endometrial thickening is to replenish qi and blood and activate blood circulation.

On the contrary, if the endometrium is too thin, it will be detrimental to the implantation of the fertilized egg and the growth and development of the embryo, thus leading to infertility.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that replenishing blood and nourishing the uterus is an effective way, so the way to thicken the endometrium is to replenish blood.

What is the normal thickness of the endometrium?

Regarding the specific value of its thickness, experts point out that it is not fixed because there are individual differences and the endometrium has the characteristics of cyclical changes.

Endometrial thickness is affected by hormones

Generally, the thickness of normal endometrium ranges from 5 to 10 mm. The thickness of endometrium varies at different stages:

Proliferative phase: The thickness of the endometrium is about 9 to 10 mm;

During the secretory phase, the thickness of the endometrium is about 5 to 6 mm;

Menstrual period: The thickness of the endometrium can reach 8-10mm;

The thickness of the endometrium changes with the cyclical changes of the ovaries. From the 5th day of the menstrual cycle, the endometrium is in the proliferative phase, and the endometrium continues to thicken until the 14th day of menstruation, and can thicken by 3 to 4 mm. In the second half of the menstrual cycle, the endometrium is in the secretory phase, but it continues to thicken, and the endometrial thickness can reach 10 mm before menstruation.

Under normal circumstances, the thickness of a woman's endometrium is 8 to 12 mm, and the minimum cannot be less than 6 mm. Normally, the thickness of the endometrium is about 10mm just after pregnancy. The thickness of the endometrium that is conducive to conception is about 8mm, and the best period for conception is during the luteal phase.
