How to perform incision and drainage of Bartholin's gland abscess?

In life, surgical treatment is a common method of treatment, especially for diseases of some body organs. The lesions can be removed through surgery, so that the adverse symptoms of the body will naturally disappear. Take the Bartholin's gland abscess incision and drainage as an example. This surgery is specifically designed for women, but many women still don't know much about it. So, how to perform incision and drainage of Bartholin's gland abscess?

The Bartholin's glands are located in the deep 1/3 of the posterior labia majora on both sides. The glandular ducts open between the hymen and the labia minora. Inflammation is prone to occur when the vulva is contaminated by sexual intercourse, childbirth, etc. During an acute inflammation attack, the pathogens first invade the gland ducts, leading to Bartholin's gland ductitis. The openings of the gland ducts are often blocked due to swelling or coagulation of exudate, and the pus cannot flow out, so it accumulates and forms an abscess. In clinical treatment, in addition to antibiotics, surgical treatment is often required.

Anesthesia method

Local infiltration anesthesia.

Preoperative preparation

Take a sitz bath with 1:5000 potassium permanganate for 3 days. Routinely disinfect the vulva.

Indications

Bartholin's gland abscess.

Contraindications

Conservative treatment should be given first during the acute inflammation phase of the Bartholin's glands when abscesses or cysts have not yet formed.

Surgical procedures

1. Incision: Choose the most undulating part of the abscess surface for longitudinal incision, with the length close to the entire length of the abscess.

2. After the pus is completely drained, wash with a cotton ball dipped in normal saline.

3. Absorbable suture bag suture

4. Pack the abscess cavity with saline gauze strips and antibiotics.

Postoperative Care

1. Antibiotics prevent and treat infection.

2. Start replacing the cyst drainage 24 hours after surgery.

3. When there is no secretion and the sinus tract becomes shallow, start taking sitz baths with 1:5000 potassium permanganate.

Precautions

Pay attention to infection prevention. Anti-infection treatment is required after surgery, and remember to change underwear frequently.
