What causes numbness in hands during pregnancy?

After the mid-term stage of pregnancy, the body will often have some reactions of varying degrees. For example, many people often feel numbness in their hands. There are several types of symptoms of hand numbness. Some are caused by pressure on the hands due to turning over smoothly during sleep or normal pregnancy edema. In addition, it is not ruled out that there may be problems with the joints, which may cause numbness in the hands. It is necessary to find the cause as soon as possible and actively adjust it.

Why do hands feel numb during pregnancy?

In fact, there are three main reasons why expectant mothers experience numbness in their hands during pregnancy. One reason is that your hand was pressed while sleeping, the second is due to edema, and the third is due to calcium deficiency.

1. Pressed

If the expectant mother's hands feel numb when she wakes up from a deep sleep at night, the most likely cause is that her hands were pressed while sleeping. After a pregnant mother has been pregnant for 3 months, her belly will swell up. She will be very careful when sleeping and will use her hands to protect her belly, which can easily cause her hands to be pressed.

2. Edema caused

If the expectant mother is in the late stage of pregnancy and has edema, the numbness in the hands is caused by the edema. Blood and lymph fluid will seep out and affect the carpal tunnel in the hand. The carpal tunnel is connected to the palm. The increased pressure inside the carpal tunnel compresses the nerves in the hand and causes numbness in the hand. Numbness in the hands of pregnant women caused by this reason often occurs after they fall into a deep sleep at night.

3. Calcium deficiency causes trouble

Some pregnant women asked again, I am not in the late stage of pregnancy, or I don’t have edema, why do I still have numbness in my hands? That means you may be calcium deficient. As the fetus's bones develop, the expectant mother's demand for calcium will increase. However, the calcium you get from daily food is far from enough to meet your own and your baby's growth needs. When there is insufficient calcium in the body, the body's bone calcium will be mobilized to meet the needs of the fetus, resulting in numbness in the hands.

If it is caused by edema, the expectant mother can do this:

1. Get enough rest

The best way to eliminate edema is to rest quietly. Studies have shown that when people rest quietly, the burden on the heart, liver, kidneys, etc. will be reduced, and edema will naturally decrease or disappear.

2. Keep warm

In order to eliminate edema, it is necessary to ensure smooth blood circulation and breathing. In order to achieve these two points, in addition to careful and intensive care, you must also pay attention to keeping warm.

3. Wear appropriate clothing

Wearing tight clothing can cause your blood circulation to be poor, which can lead to swelling. Therefore, expectant mothers should try to avoid wearing tight clothes during pregnancy.

4. Eat low-salt meals

After pregnancy, the body's ability to regulate salt and water decreases, so in daily life, you should try to control your salt intake and keep the daily intake below 10g.

5. Raise your legs

It is recommended that expectant mothers raise their legs for 15 to 20 minutes before going to bed (or during lunch break). This can have the dual effects of accelerating blood return and reducing intravenous pressure, thereby alleviating edema during pregnancy.

If it is caused by pressure on the hand, the expectant mother can do this:

Be careful when you sleep! If you have poor self-control, you can ask your husband to help watch your poor hands.

If it is caused by calcium deficiency, expectant mothers can do this:

There is nothing to say, just two words: calcium supplement!
