Is it normal to have insomnia during pregnancy?

When a person's mental state reaches a certain level of tension, he needs to rest to relax his mind. At this time, sleeping is a good way to rest. However, some specific people are prone to insomnia when they sleep at night. Everyone knows that when pregnant women are pregnant, the estrogen in their bodies changes, so the corresponding bodies will also have many abnormal reactions. But is it normal to suffer from insomnia when you are two months pregnant?

What to do if you have insomnia during early pregnancy

1. Hormonal changes: Under the influence of pregnancy hormones, pregnant women will have great mood swings and are particularly nervous. They often get angry over trivial matters and their ability to withstand stress is reduced. Coupled with concerns about the fetus in the womb, it is easy to cause emotional instability, and therefore depression and insomnia often occur. The effects of hormones can also cause pregnant women to be in a state of extreme excitement. Before going to bed, they will be full of longing for the baby and will even keep guessing whether it is a boy or a girl. Their minds are too active and it is not easy for them to fall asleep.

2. Changes in eating habits: Due to pregnancy reactions and requirements for dietary nutrition, pregnant women's eating habits will undergo certain changes. Some pregnant women have a particularly good appetite during pregnancy and often eat too much before going to bed, which affects their gastrointestinal function. If you are not feeling well, you will naturally not sleep well. If a pregnant woman eats foods containing caffeine and fat before going to bed, such as coffee, tea, fried foods, etc., it will also cause changes in the body's hormone secretion, leading to physical discomfort and insomnia.

3. Caused by pregnancy reaction: During pregnancy, the growing uterus will compress the pregnant woman's bladder. The expectant mother may suffer from frequent urination, which seriously affects the quality of sleep. Many pregnant women also experience cramps, most of which occur during sleep, and can easily cause insomnia.

How to eat during insomnia in pregnant women

1. Don’t eat foods that cause bloating. Some foods produce more gas during digestion, which causes bloating and interferes with normal sleep. Such as beans, cabbage, onions, green broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green peppers, eggplant, potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro, corn, bananas, bread, citrus fruits, and beverages and desserts with added xylitol (sweetener).

2. Don’t eat spicy or salty food before going to bed. Spicy foods such as peppers, garlic and raw onions can cause stomach heartburn and indigestion in some people, thus interfering with sleep. In addition, high-salt foods will cause people to ingest too much sodium ions, causing blood vessels to constrict, blood pressure to rise, leading to emotional tension and causing insomnia. If you already have a history of high blood pressure, eating high-salt foods is likely to cause hypertensive headaches and strokes.

3. Don’t eat too greasy food before going to bed. Eating a large and greasy dinner, or eating a lot of high-fat food, will increase the workload of the intestines, stomach, liver, gallbladder and pancreas, stimulate the nerve center, keep it working all the time, and also cause insomnia.

4. Eat vegetables with high fiber content wisely. Vegetables with too much fiber, such as leeks, garlic sprouts, and mustard greens, are not easy to digest. Even if you want to eat them, they should be fried a little bit and do not add too much oil and salt. Try to eat more boiled, stewed, and steamed foods, and less fried, grilled, and grilled foods. In addition, food should be soft rather than hard, especially when cooking rice, it should be as soft as possible.
