Can I use alcohol on my nipples?

After giving birth, women will choose breastfeeding as long as their physical condition is normal. The nutrients contained in breast milk cannot be obtained by any complementary food. Breastfeeding can also make women feel the responsibility of being a mother. Breastfeeding can also be called bacterial feeding, which can improve the baby's resistance. However, women's nipples must be cleaned well. So can the nipples be wiped with alcohol?

First, can alcohol be used to wipe the nipples? Although alcohol can be used to disinfect and sterilize, it is not recommended to use alcohol to wipe the nipples; because the skin of the nipples is relatively delicate, it is easy to cause nipple irritation, pain and discomfort; in addition, the concentration of medical alcohol is generally 75%, which is easy to cause dehydration and dryness of the nipple skin;

Second, under normal circumstances, there is no need to disinfect the nipples frequently. Of course, proper cleaning is still necessary. When bathing, mothers can choose to gently wipe the nipples with soft clean cotton. This is also to clean the shower gel or soap and other cleaning products remaining on the nipples. Do not use too much force when cleaning.

Third, avoid using bath towels for washing. Bath towels and other daily necessities are easy to breed bacteria and other harmful substances when left in the humid environment of the bathroom for a long time. Towels are also prone to hardening after being used for a long time. The nipples of mothers who breastfeed continuously are more fragile, and they are easily cracked when wiped with a towel. In severe cases, mastitis may be contracted.

Fourth, in order to make the baby eat healthier and reduce the invasion of bacteria, some mothers may have the crazy idea of not only cleaning the nipples but also disinfecting them. Some mothers will wipe their breasts clean and squeeze out a few drops of milk before feeding colostrum. In fact, breastfeeding is a bacterial process. This "sterile environment" that is pursued is actually not conducive to the development of the baby's immune system.

Can the nipples be wiped with alcohol? Alcohol has a good disinfection effect but it is very irritating to the skin. Some mothers have broken nipples and using alcohol to disinfect the wound is not conducive to wound healing. If the alcohol is not cleaned thoroughly and there is residue, it will affect the baby's health and the quality of breast milk.
