What causes lower body pain during pregnancy?

Many pregnant women will feel pain in the lower part of the uterus due to pregnancy, especially in the late pregnancy when they are about to give birth, because the fetus will try to make some movements to enter the pelvis at this time, which will cause pain in the lower part of the uterus. Therefore, pregnant women should rest in bed and wait quietly for the arrival of delivery, because the separation is not far away. So what should you do if you have pain in your lower body during pregnancy?

If symphysis pubis separation occurs at 31 weeks, it will make you feel very uncomfortable when getting in and out of bed. Some women experience severe pain at 31 weeks of labor, but the pain gets better later. For some people, the condition gets worse as time goes by. If it gets worse after 38 weeks, surgery is needed. If it gets better later, surgery is not necessary. The specific situation will be determined based on future circumstances. Many pregnant women complain of pain near the pubic bone, but when they see a doctor they are often told that this is one of the uncomfortable symptoms associated with pregnancy, which is insignificant and must be endured. Some even use this as a reason for a caesarean section.

What exactly is the cause of pubic pain? Is there any way to relieve its discomfort?

During pregnancy, the hormones relaxin and progesterone can help relax the ligaments, making the pelvis more flexible, giving the fetus more room to grow and facilitating delivery. Therefore, symphysis pubis separation occurs in almost all pregnant women. However, in some women, the excessive secretion of the above-mentioned hormones may occur; or the ligaments are too sensitive to hormones, making this area very loose; or there may be problems with the alignment of the pelvis, causing this joint to bear more pressure, leading to excessive separation of the pubic symphysis. According to statistics in the literature, the normal distance between the two pubic bones of a non-pregnant woman is 4 to 5 mm. Once pregnant, hormones will increase the distance between the two by at least 2 to 3 mm. Therefore, if the width between the pubic bones is less than 9 mm, it is within the normal range during pregnancy and there are usually no symptoms. Even if there is pain, it is not obvious. Once the distance between the two exceeds 4 to 5 mm, it is considered excessive separation of the pubic symphysis, which will cause more severe pain.

The pelvis is a round bone that meets at the front center from both sides, and this front center part is called the pubic bone. The pubic bone is composed of two bones with a gap in the middle. Instead of being close together, they are connected by fibrous cartilaginous tissue composed of several ligaments. This area is called the pubic symphysis. Diagnosis and Odds Excessive separation of the pubic symphysis may occur during pregnancy, labor, or after delivery, with reported rates ranging from 1/300 to 1/30,000, regardless of the patient's body size. Diagnosis is mainly based on clinical symptoms, and some imaging examinations, such as pelvic X-ray (after delivery), ultrasound (during pregnancy), or MRI scans, can be used as auxiliary diagnostic tools. Symptoms of symphysis pubis separation vary widely, but generally, there is substantial pubic pain.
