Is it accurate to do ultrasound before menstruation?

As we all know, B-ultrasound is a common examination method. For women, B-ultrasound can be used to know the condition of their uterus. Especially for pregnant women, they can use B-ultrasound examination to see the development of the fetus. However, there are some issues that need to be paid attention to when conducting B-ultrasound examination. So, is it accurate to do an ultrasound before menstruation? In fact, this needs to be judged based on your own inspection items.

The scope of B-type ultrasound examination is very wide, and the preparation before examination is also different for different examination parts. ① Abdominal examination: including liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and abdominal cavity. Generally, the examination should be done on an empty stomach, because after eating, the stomach and intestines produce gas, which affects the penetration of ultrasound. The examination is best performed on an empty stomach. ② Gynecological examination: You should drink water and hold your urine. When the bladder is full, squeeze the intestine to allow ultrasound to better penetrate into the pelvic cavity and clearly show the normal and abnormal conditions of the uterus and ovaries. ③Urinary system examination: You should drink more water. When the bladder is full, the internal stones, tumors, polyps, etc. will be better displayed. ④ Surface tumors and lesions: They can be examined immediately and generally do not require special preparation. ⑤ No preparation is required for heart and limb vascular examinations.

Type B ultrasound is the main method of ultrasound examination. Although ultrasound has developed by leaps and bounds, such as endoscopic ultrasound, ultrasound angiography, three-dimensional imaging, elastic imaging, etc., they are all developed on the basis of type B ultrasound. Therefore, all physicians who perform ultrasound work and patients being examined should understand the characteristics of B-type ultrasound, preparation before examination, examination scope and precautions, etc., so as to better use it to serve the examinees.

Preparation before the examination

1. Don’t eat foods that easily produce gas.

Foods such as milk and sweet potatoes easily produce gas after consumption, and these gases will hinder the penetration of ultrasound, resulting in unclear imaging of the organs being examined.

2. Hold urine or urinate in advance based on actual examination.

When doing an ultrasound in the early stages of pregnancy, a certain amount of urine needs to accumulate in the bladder in order to see clearly, so it is recommended that pregnant mothers hold their urine in advance. You can drink two glasses of boiled water at home in advance to save time when going to the hospital for examination. If you are doing an ultrasound examination in the middle or late stages of pregnancy, not only do you not need to hold your urine, you should also urinate in advance. This is because after three months of pregnancy, the uterus becomes larger and the amount of amniotic fluid increases. The doctor can use ultrasound equipment to observe the condition of the fetus through the amniotic fluid. If there is urine in the bladder, it may affect the appearance of the fetal image.

3. Keep your clothes loose and easy to take off.

Loose clothing can save time during the examination and also help the pregnant mother relax her nervous mood. During the examination, you should be relaxed and cooperate with the doctor. Being too nervous may affect the effectiveness of the examination.
