Stomach pain when going to toilet in late pregnancy

Stomach pain when going to toilet in late pregnancy

In the late stages of pregnancy, if you experience abdominal pain when going to the toilet, it is most likely a symptom caused by false labor. False labor is a relatively common phenomenon and often occurs in the late pregnancy, which will cause certain discomfort to the patient. Therefore, pregnant women and their caregivers must understand the relevant knowledge about false labor. Below we will introduce this knowledge in detail!

1. What is false labor?

Uterine contractions are a sign that labor is imminent, but not all contractions are real; some may just be false alarms. This kind of uterine contraction that only has the symptoms of uterine contraction but has little practical effect on delivery is called false uterine contraction, or false labor.

The "false" in false labor does not deny the symptoms of labor contractions, but because this type of labor contractions has no guiding role in the timing of delivery, it is somewhat confusing. Inexperienced mothers may be unnecessarily frightened and even affected in their mood. Therefore, it is very important to correctly judge the authenticity of labor contractions.

2. The main symptoms of false labor

False labor contractions are short-lived, weak, and have no regular pattern in timing. When uterine contractions occur, pregnant women can feel the uterine muscles contract significantly, the lower abdomen hardens, and there is slight pain. The timing of false labor is very difficult to guess. A pregnant woman may suddenly feel a short contraction and then nothing else, or she may experience a long contraction and then suddenly stop. This is significantly different from the precursory labor before delivery.

3. Causes of false labor

After pregnancy, the expectant mother's uterine muscles will become more and more sensitive, especially before delivery, some slight stimulation may induce irregular contractions of the uterine muscles. For example, factors such as the stimulation of the muscles caused by the descent of the fetal head in late pregnancy, sexual intercourse during pregnancy, catching a cold due to wind, being hit in the belly, or the pregnant woman standing for too long may all be the culprits of false labor.

In most cases, false labor is a normal physiological phenomenon and pregnant women do not need to worry too much. To avoid this phenomenon, pregnant women must pay attention to rest, try to avoid being too nervous or tired, do not put too much burden on the belly, and do not engage in any intense activities.
