Postpartum recovery steps for cesarean section

Postpartum recovery steps for cesarean section

There is generally a difference in the postpartum recovery between women who have cesarean sections and women who give birth naturally. Pregnant women who give birth naturally can get out of bed on their own after giving birth, but women who have cesarean sections generally need to rest in bed and cannot eat immediately after giving birth. Postpartum care after cesarean section is very important. If the care is not proper, it can easily cause wound inflammation or affect the body's recovery.

Recovery after a cesarean section

Within 6 hours after delivery:

Lying posture: Mothers who return to the ward after surgery need to lie flat with their heads tilted to one side and without a pillow. The reason for lying flat without a pillow is that most cesarean sections use epidural anesthesia. Lying flat without a pillow after surgery can prevent headaches. At the same time, lying flat with the head tilted to one side can also prevent aspiration of vomitus. The nurse will properly secure the urinary catheter drainage bag and infusion tube in the appropriate position, place a sanitary napkin under the mother's buttocks, and massage the mother's uterus regularly to observe uterine contractions and vaginal bleeding.

Do not eat or drink within 6 hours after surgery

Placing a sandbag on the abdomen: Sometimes the nurse will place a sandbag on the abdomen of the parturient to reduce bleeding from abdominal wounds. Nurses will measure the mother's blood pressure, check her complexion, measure her pulse and body temperature at regular intervals as required, observe the color of her urine, the amount of urine, whether the catheter is unobstructed, etc. at regular intervals, and record these conditions.

Breastfeeding in time: When the baby is hungry, the nurse will hold him to the mother, and the mother must feed the most precious colostrum to the baby. This is an experience worth remembering, for your baby and for yourself. The baby's sucking can also promote uterine contraction, reduce uterine bleeding, and make the wound heal as soon as possible.

Fasting: Do not eat or drink within 6 hours after surgery. This is because surgery can easily irritate the intestines and inhibit intestinal function, slow down intestinal motility, and cause gas accumulation in the intestinal cavity. Therefore, there will be a feeling of abdominal distension after surgery. To relieve intestinal bloating, do not eat for a while.

First day after delivery (after 6 hours):

Lying posture: The mother can use a pillow 6 hours after lying flat. At this time, it is best to adopt a side-lying position. You can put a quilt or blanket behind your back to make the body and the bed at an angle of 20 to 30 degrees. This can reduce the vibration and pulling pain of the wound when the body moves, and you will feel more comfortable.

Precautions for diet after cesarean section

1. Avoid eating too fine a diet

In terms of diet, postpartum women should not eat too refined food, because if the food is cooked too finely, it may cause loss of nutrition. Secondly, eating only refined grains, eggs, milk and other too refined foods can easily lead to constipation in postpartum women.

Therefore, on the basis of ensuring a certain amount of grain, you should eat a combination of coarse and fine grains and eat more fiber-rich foods, because the crude fiber in coarse grains can lower cholesterol; and the fiber in vegetables can promote intestinal peristalsis, which is not only beneficial for digestion but also can prevent constipation. In addition, to ensure that the mother's nutrition is comprehensive, a normal diet is sufficient; if you want the mother to have sufficient milk, you can eat more dairy products and protein-rich foods, but do not ignore fresh vegetables and fruits. In addition, mothers who drink fish soup to increase their milk supply should not just drink the soup without eating the fish. You should know that the nutrition in the soup is limited after all, while the fish is rich in gelatinous fiber, which can promote intestinal peristalsis.

2. Do not eat eggs immediately after delivery

Although my country has always had the habit of eating eggs to increase milk production, medical research shows that it is best for mothers not to eat eggs within a few hours after giving birth. Because during the delivery process, the mother consumes a lot of physical energy, sweats a lot, and lacks body fluids, her digestive ability will also decrease. If you eat eggs immediately after giving birth, they will be difficult to digest and will increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, semi-liquid or liquid food should be eaten within a few hours after delivery. It is recommended to drink some brown sugar water, because brown sugar contains higher nutritional value and richer minerals and trace elements.
