Abdominal pain in late pregnancy like menstruation

If you experience abdominal pain in the late stages of pregnancy, it may be due to uterine contractions or preparation for delivery. There are generally several situations in which abdominal pain occurs, some are caused by compression, some are due to diarrhea, and some are due to frequent occurrences. In fact, these may all be related to preparation for delivery. As a pregnant mother, you need to observe the changes in your body and choose to go to the hospital regularly for check-ups based on different changes.

Abdominal pain in late pregnancy

In the late stage of pregnancy, when it is almost time to give birth, abdominal pain may occur. Generally, there are two situations: one is physiological abdominal pain, and the other is pathological abdominal pain.

Physiological abdominal pain includes:

First, the uterus enlarges and compresses the ribs. As the fetus develops faster, the uterus also grows faster. The enlarged uterus constantly stimulates the lower edge of the ribs, which can cause dull rib pain.

Second, the frequency of fetal movement is not as high as before, but the baby's strength has increased significantly. When he occasionally kicks you with his little feet, you may feel a little pain.

Third, false labor often occurs when standing or sitting for a long time. It usually has no regular pattern and is more likely to occur when the pregnant mother is tired or excited.

Pathological abdominal pain:

First, placental abruption is prone to occur in pregnant women with high blood pressure, multiple births, uterine fibroids, abdominal trauma and smoking. It is very painful and is often accompanied by vaginal bleeding.

Second, threatened uterine rupture often occurs in an instant, beginning with persistent severe abdominal pain. There is a tearing pain at the moment of uterine rupture, and the probability of occurrence is very small.

Third, uterine torsion often occurs during activities and manifests as sudden severe lower abdominal pain that can spread throughout the abdomen.

Does abdominal pain in late pregnancy affect the fetus?

As mentioned above, if it is physiological abdominal pain, then the impact on the fetus and the expectant mother will not be that great. But if there is a sign of uterine rupture, the baby and the expectant mother are in a gray area. At this time, a caesarean section should be performed to rescue the expectant mother quickly and stop the bleeding quickly. When a caesarean section is performed later, if the baby still has a fetal heartbeat, then his chances of survival are high.

Placental abruption may also lead to the death of the baby. If the placental abruption exceeds 50%, the expectant mother's coagulation mechanism will be abnormal, and the fate of the fetus can only be left to fate. Of course, the chance of placental abruption is very low, only 0.5~1%, so expectant mothers don’t need to worry too much. However, if the expectant mother has high blood pressure, has a smoking habit, and is carrying multiple babies, then placental abruption is likely to occur.

If the stomach pain is caused by physiological reasons, expectant mothers don’t need to worry too much. Fetal movement can also cause stomach pain, but the baby can still play happily, which proves that he is still quite energetic. If it is a false labor, the expectant mother must be prepared to welcome the birth of the baby.
