Back pain in late pregnancy

Back pain in late pregnancy

We all know that when pregnant women reach the third trimester, their bodies will undergo some changes, because at this time, their body functions have begun to prepare for childbirth, and even the fetus in the body will begin to enter the pelvis. In the third trimester, most women's bellies are very obvious, so the bellies will compress some nerves in the body. So what should you do if you have back pain in the third trimester?

1. Identify the cause of back pain

First of all, every pregnant mother should clarify the specific cause of low back pain. If you have sciatica before pregnancy, you still need to ask an orthopedic doctor for help in diagnosis and treatment. If you have back pain that starts in the middle or late pregnancy, it is mostly a normal reaction of the bones and ligaments during pregnancy and you don't need to worry too much. Even if you have very painful pubic symphysis separation, you don't need to rush for medical treatment. You cannot use painkillers casually, nor can you use acupuncture, cupping, plasters, etc. to relieve pain, because plasters often contain musk, which is not good for the fetus.

2. Pay attention to rest and do not stay in bed for a long time

If a pregnant mother experiences back pain, she should get adequate rest, but she should not stay in bed for a long time, especially not lying on her back. The heavy uterus will compress the inferior vena cava and abdominal aorta, affecting blood return, causing transient hypotension in the pregnant mother, reduced blood supply to the placenta, and even threatening the safety of the fetus in the womb. Therefore, pregnant mothers should try to lie on their side, preferably on their left side, because this can increase the blood flow to the placenta. At the same time, place one or two pillows between your knees and then place a pillow under your big belly.

3. Maintain a correct sitting posture

The correct sitting posture with a backrest can reduce the burden on the pregnant mother's back muscles. When pregnant mothers sit on a chair, if the chair backrest is at a right angle, the burden on their waist is almost the same as when they are standing. However, if the backrest is tilted back 20 degrees and the waist also tilts backward, the burden on the waist can be halved. That is to say, if the pregnant mother can sit on a seat with a tiltable backrest, the pain can be relieved. If there is no seat with a tiltable backrest, a lumbar cushion can be used to relieve the pain.

4. Massage your waist and back

Massaging the lower back can often relax tired and painful muscles, so pregnant mothers can try lying on the back of a chair or lying on their side, and let the prospective father help you gently massage the muscles on both sides of the spine, especially the lower back, so that you will feel better.
