Postpartum belly bulge

Postpartum belly bulge

After giving birth, many pregnant women find that they have a lot of fat in their belly, which can be clearly seen when they put on clothes. In fact, the abdomen after giving birth will not be inexplicably prominent, but the recovery of pregnant women in the middle and late stages is not very good, and the ideal effect is not achieved. Next, let me introduce to you the reasons for a protruding belly after giving birth.

1. During pregnancy, the abdomen expands, the rectus abdominis separates, the elasticity of the abdomen decreases, and the abdominal cavity becomes loose, which will cause the lower abdomen to protrude.

2. Obesity. Generally, after giving birth, due to the rich nutrition and diet, there will be an increase in weight and abdominal obesity.

3. As people age, body fat becomes unevenly distributed, so for women, the older they get, the more obvious their abdomen becomes.

4. Poor uterine repair

Regularity of uterine repair after childbirth

Palace

Soon after delivery, along with uterine contractions, the embryo is separated from the inner wall of the uterus. Due to the contraction and contraction of the uterine muscles, the volume of the uterus is significantly reduced, and it gradually shrinks into a spherical shape and descends into the pelvic cavity, decreasing by about 1 to 2 centimeters a day.

Cervix

After giving birth, due to hematoma and edema, the cervical wall becomes very soft and becomes thinner. 7 to 10 days after giving birth, the cervical opening begins to close and repair itself, and it takes about 4 weeks after giving birth to recover.

Uterine wall

Because the embryo, placenta and endometrium are separated after delivery, a new layer of uterine wall will be rebuilt at the bottom. About 3 to 4 weeks after giving birth, the newborn's uterine wall will cover the rest of the uterus except for the surface where the embryo is attached. Generally, the uterus can be restored to a state close to that of non-pregnancy 5 to 6 weeks after giving birth. This process is called uterine repair. In addition to restoring the size of the uterus, its position in the pelvis must also be restored to its pre-delivery state.

Pay attention to these three points when repairing the uterus

After giving birth, as the uterine wall falls off, mucus produced by uterine metabolism is discharged from the female vagina. This is postpartum lochia. New mothers can carefully observe the changes in the amount, color and smell of postpartum lochia, and promptly understand the status of uterine repair.

1/Discharge volume

The lochia discharged by a new mother after giving birth is shiny and not dirty. It will be cleaned up in about 3-4 weeks after giving birth, and generally does not exceed 42 days. This indicates that the uterus has recovered well. If the postpartum lochia is heavy and lasts for a long time, it indicates that the uterus is not repaired well.

2/Color

Three or four days after giving birth, the lochia discharged is thick, accompanied by a small amount of blood, cervical mucus and fallen membrane tissue, etc. As the uterus continues to repair, the color of the lochia will gradually fade, turning into light pink, brown, and finally light yellow, a thinner milky white. If the color of mothers' lochia is not normal solid or serous, but turbid, dirty earthy brown, they should be alert to the possibility of placental retention.

3/Taste

Normal postpartum lochia has a fishy smell, but no peculiar smell. After giving birth, depending on each person's uterine recovery condition, the lochia after delivery for about 7-10 days is generally odorless. If there is a fishy or foul smell and the color is turbid, it is likely to be infected and needs to be checked.
