What to do if there is less amniotic fluid in late pregnancy

In the later stages of pregnancy, if there is too little amniotic fluid, it will have a great impact on the health of both the pregnant woman and the fetus, and may easily lead to fetal malformations and pregnancy syndromes. Therefore, when there is too little amniotic fluid, it should be checked in time. The doctor should closely observe the health of the fetus to ensure the good development of the fetus. Certain methods can be used to provide timely treatment, such as drinking plenty of soup, infusions or supplements, etc.

What to do if there is less amniotic fluid in late pregnancy

1. During the prenatal check-up, it was found that the pregnant mother had too little amniotic fluid. The doctor closely observed the fetus to ensure that he continued to develop normally. The specific solution depends on the gestational age of the pregnant mother, the health status of the baby, and whether there are other complications. If there is too little amniotic fluid, the fetus is found to be normal after examination, and the pregnant woman has no serious complications, the amount of amniotic fluid can be increased by drinking water quickly. Drink more boiled water. Remember to drink a large glass of water before the next ultrasound. Generally, more amniotic fluid will increase. Pregnant women who are full-term and have not yet given birth and are lacking in amniotic fluid can drink 2000 ml of water within 2 hours. If the requirement is still not met, they can repeat the above method. Those whose financial conditions permit can go to the hospital for regular oxygen inhalation.

2. If oligohydramnios is caused by insufficient maternal blood volume or hypoxia, drinking plenty of water, intravenous infusion and oxygen inhalation can indeed play a certain role. For mothers with hypercoagulation function, low molecular weight heparin can be injected subcutaneously or low molecular weight dextran can be infused intravenously to make the blood less easy to coagulate, improve the blood circulation in the placenta, and facilitate the formation of amniotic fluid.

3. Clinical application of amniotic fluid infusion to prevent and treat oligohydramnios in late pregnancy has achieved good results. Amniotic fluid infusion can relieve umbilical cord compression, reduce fetal heart rate variation deceleration rate, meconium excretion rate and cesarean section rate, and improve newborn survival rate.

4. If oligohydramnios is caused by diseases such as gestational hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, lupus erythematosus, etc., an ultrasound examination should be performed every once in a while to detect the condition of oligohydramnios in time to prevent allergic reactions, bleeding tendency, premature birth, miscarriage, infection and other adverse reactions.

5. If the low amniotic fluid is caused by insufficient blood volume or lack of oxygen in the pregnant woman, drinking plenty of water or soup, intravenous infusion, and oxygen supplementation can also be effective.

What is oligohydramnios

There are two methods to measure the amount of amniotic fluid by B-ultrasound. One is to measure the largest amniotic fluid pool, which should be larger than 3cm and smaller than 8cm. The second is to measure the amniotic fluid index. The normal range is 8~25cm. When the amniotic fluid index is less than 8cm, it is oligohydramnios, and when the amniotic fluid index is greater than 25cm, it is polyhydramnios. Common causes of oligohydramnios include fetal developmental abnormalities, intrauterine growth retardation, chromosomal abnormalities, amniotic lesions, or the mother suffering from certain diseases, and low blood volume.

When the fetus is in the mother's belly, it eats, drinks, defecates and urinates in the amniotic fluid, which is also an important substance for the pregnant woman and the fetus to exchange nutrients and metabolize waste. Too little amniotic fluid will make the fetus's living environment worse and nutrients cannot be absorbed well, so supplementing amniotic fluid is of utmost importance.
