What are the effects of enlarged ovaries?

Ovaries are very important for women. On the one hand, the ovaries are reproductive organs, and on the other hand, they affect female hormones, further affecting women's physical health. Some people find that their ovaries are enlarged during physical examinations, but they think that enlarged ovaries have no effect. In fact, enlarged ovaries are very likely to be ovarian cysts or polycystic ovary syndrome, which should be taken seriously.

1. Cause pregnancy complications

Once a patient becomes pregnant, the risk of developing pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes will increase significantly.

2. Affecting the appearance

Generally speaking, patients will show symptoms such as hirsutism, obesity, and acne, which greatly affect women's appearance and reduce their self-confidence.

3. Increase the incidence of other diseases

After 30 years, the incidence of hypertension in such patients will be 8 times higher than that of normal women, and the incidence of diabetes will increase 6 times. In addition, the incidence of endometrial cancer and breast cancer will be 2 times higher, leaving many hidden dangers for the future.

4. Infertility

Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome often have symptoms of persistent anovulation and generally find it difficult to become pregnant naturally, which is the main cause of female infertility.

5. Amenorrhea

Among patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, about 1/3 experience amenorrhea, which affects women's future fertility.

Ovarian lesions can cause a lot of harm to women's bodies. Ovarian cysts can also become malignant, seriously affecting their lives.

Clinical manifestations of ovarian cysts

1. Edema affects life

In addition to loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal distension, patients with ovarian cysts may also experience vomiting, fever and severe abdominal pain; in the later stages, it may even lead to edema of the abdomen and limbs.

2. Compression symptoms

It causes breathing difficulties and palpitations. The huge cyst fills the abdominal cavity, increasing the intra-abdominal pressure, affecting the hypogastric venous return, and leading to edema of the abdominal wall and bilateral lower limbs. Malignant ovarian cysts can cause dysuria, urinary retention, urgency or difficulty in defecation.

3. Waistline thickening

Patients notice that their clothes or belts become tighter and their abdomen becomes larger. When they press their abdomen, they may find a lump inside and feel bloated and uncomfortable.

4. Ascites

The presence of ascites is a characteristic of malignant tumors, and benign cysts can also produce ascites. Endocrine symptoms include hirsutism, deepening of voice, and clitoral hypertrophy.
