Can I still take Chinese medicine during menstruation?

Can I still take Chinese medicine during menstruation?

The female body is still relatively fragile during menstruation, so you need to pay attention to many things during this period and take precautions. First of all, in terms of diet, some things are prohibited. In addition, during menstruation, you should try your best not to take Chinese medicine, because Chinese medicine will interfere with menstruation, resulting in increased menstrual blood volume, decreased menstrual blood volume, or prolonged or shortened menstrual duration, etc. It is recommended to use Chinese medicine after the menstruation is over.

Can I take Chinese medicine during my period?

First of all, you need to see what kind of Chinese medicine you are taking. If the Chinese medicine contains cold medicines or blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing medicines, you should not take them. This is because cold medicines will cause meridian contraction, blood circulation obstruction, and lead to dysmenorrhea, while blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing medicines will cause excessive menstrual flow, resulting in a decrease in blood throughout the body and causing anemia. However, drugs that promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis will increase blood volume and prolong menstrual period.

You should eat less or not take raw Atractylodes macrocephala, raw Astragalus membranaceus, licorice, Polygala tenuifolia, costusroot, Uncaria rhynchophylla, Codonopsis pilosula, Angelica sinensis, Poria cocos, Ziziphus jujuba seed, red dates, calcined magnetite and other medicines.

During the menstrual period, you should also pay attention to the following matters:

1. It is not suitable to drink strong tea or coffee: these beverages contain high caffeine content, which can easily stimulate the nerves and cardiovascular system, resulting in uncomfortable symptoms such as menstrual pain, prolonged menstruation and excessive menstrual bleeding.

2. Avoid eating raw and cold vegetables and fruits and drinking cold drinks: raw and cold foods will slow down blood circulation, thereby affecting the contraction of the uterus and the discharge of menstrual blood, causing adverse discharge of menstrual blood and causing menstrual pain.

3. It is not suitable to have sexual intercourse: During menstruation, the endometrium is peeled off and a wound is formed on the surface. If sexual intercourse occurs, it is easy for bacteria to be introduced and go retrograde into the uterine cavity, causing intrauterine infection.

4. Don’t eat too salty food: Too salty food will increase the salt and water retention in the body. Before menstruation, it is easy to have symptoms such as headache, emotional excitement and irritability.
