How long does phototherapy for bacterial vaginosis last?

Bacterial vaginitis is a relatively common type of vaginitis, which is mainly caused by bacterial infection. During the treatment of bacterial vaginitis, medication should not be used for too long, especially some antibiotics. If used improperly, it will cause great harm to the patient's liver and kidney function. Therefore, attention should be paid to the course of treatment. If the medication is not effective, change the medication under the guidance of a doctor.

Bacterial vaginosis

The treatment of bacterial vaginitis does not require three months of medication. This type of anti-fungal infection drug can cause great damage to liver and kidney function. After a cycle of treatment, if you feel that your symptoms have improved, you can go for another check-up. If there is no infection, you do not need to continue taking the medication.

It may be caused by the use of large doses of antibiotics, which leads to vaginal flora imbalance. Because antibacterial drugs destroy the normal flora and weakly acidic environment in the vagina, they lead to the massive reproduction of fungi. This kind of anti-fungal infection drug can cause great damage to liver and kidney functions. After it is cured and there are no more symptoms, you can go for another check-up. If you are cured, stop taking the drug. In addition, due to the hot and humid summer, fungi are prone to grow, so it is recommended to wear breathable cotton underwear to keep the genitals clean and dry. Do not wash underwear together with socks when washing clothes, because if you have athlete's foot, the fungus on the socks can be transferred to your underwear through mixed washing and cause the infection to recur. If your spouse is also infected, you should also be examined and treated together to prevent the possibility of cross-infection and recurrence.

Four diagnostic criteria for bacterial vaginosis

1. Vaginal discharge is grayish white, very sticky, even like paste, and uniform, but it is not purulent, and the amount is uncertain.

2. The amine content in the secretion is particularly high, so it has a fishy smell. During sexual intercourse or after activity, the smell is often aggravated due to the release of amines. Adding 10% potassium hydroxide to the secretion can also release the amine smell.

3. Clue cells can be detected in wet smears of vaginal secretions.

4. The pH value in vaginal secretions increases, with a pH range of 5.0-5.5, while the normal pH is 4.5-4.7.

Among the above four criteria, the diagnosis can be confirmed if three or more are met, and the fourth is emphasized as a necessary diagnostic criterion.
