1. Protecting the female reproductive system:

This theory holds that the hymen plays a protective role in the female reproductive system and even the body. It is a barrier that protects oneself and prevents the invasion of pathogens. The hymen guards the entrance to the vagina and prevents urine from entering the vagina. Women in ancient times did not wear dresses. At most, they would wrap a piece of animal skin around their lower body. The exposed lower body could easily attract bacterial invasion. The vaginal wall of a young girl is relatively thin, and her ovaries are not fully developed yet, so she relies entirely on the hymen as a barrier.

(ii) To select the strongest men:

This theory holds that the main function of the hymen is to select strong men and encourage high-quality sperm to enter the body for fertilization. In the primitive social period of human beings, marriage was relatively free and chaotic. There is no choice of matching social status, and no constraints or restrictions based on age. There is a great deal of randomness in the union of the two sexes. The existence of the hymen can prevent older men and those with sexual dysfunction from possessing young girls. This can reduce or prevent the birth of less-optimal offspring, which has evolutionary significance in selecting the strong. Because the sexual ability of the elderly is relatively weak, and those who are impotent are mostly people with poor physical fitness or are sick. There is a certain correlation between sexual ability and physical strength. The existence of the hymen has become a checkpoint to test sexual ability. Those who break through the barrier are strong patents and can leave their genes to their offspring, while those who cannot enter are often weaker ones who have fewer or no opportunities to reproduce. This natural law of survival of the fittest is realized through the test of the hymen.
