Vaginal secretion positive for white blood cells

Vaginal secretion positive for white blood cells

After the menstrual period is over, the discharge is small in amount, white in color, and viscous. In the middle and late menstrual period, when the uterus and ovaries are about to ovulate, due to the active secretion of the cervical gland ducts, there is a lot of leucorrhea, which is transparent, slightly sticky, and egg white-like. 2 to 3 days after ovulation, the secretions become turbid, thick and sticky but in small amounts. Before, during, and after menstruation, due to pelvic congestion, vaginal mucosal exudate increases and secretions usually increase.

When checking female secretions, if the white blood cell count is positive, it often reminds you of the possibility of Trichomonas vaginitis. In addition to routine examination of leucorrhea, Trichomonas vaginitis also needs to be treated with symptoms and clinical signs. The most common symptoms are excessive leucorrhea and leucorrhea with an odor. In some cases, there may also be pain in the private parts and itching in the vagina.

Then, a gynecological examination will be performed, and blood and edema of the vaginal mucosa will be found. Then, combined with the results of the secretions, a diagnosis can be made. If vaginal inflammation is confirmed, timely treatment is required. Generally, local medication is more effective. After completing the medication, the secretions need to be rechecked to see the condition of the vagina.

The presence of white blood cells in female secretions does not rule out the possibility of reproductive system infection. The next solution plan should be determined based on other items in the female secretion examination results and the patient's symptoms and clinical manifestations.

If the results of female secretion examination indicate the presence of vaginitis, appropriate medication can be given under the guidance of a doctor. For example, nifuratel and nystatin vaginal capsules can treat bacterial vaginitis, fungal vaginitis and candidal vaginitis, and ornidazole vaginal effervescent tablets can treat candidal vaginitis and bacterial vaginitis.

If the patient has lower abdominal tenderness and fever, it usually indicates acute pelvic inflammatory disease, which requires empirical antibiotic treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

Classification

1. Physiological secretions

Normal leucorrhea is milky white and sticky or egg white-like, viscous, without any fishy smell, and in small amounts. It is called physiological secretion. Due to the action of the pelvic floor muscles, the female vaginal opening is closed and the front, back, left and right walls are close together. The moisture in the secretions keeps the woman's vagina moist. This moist environment can reduce the friction between the front and back walls of the vagina and protect the vaginal walls from damage. At the same time, this moist state makes the female vagina lubricated and elastic, which is beneficial to improving the quality of sexual life.

2. Physiological secretions

When the reproductive system is inflamed, such as vaginitis and cervicitis in acute patients, or when lesions occur, the amount of secretions increases significantly and the characteristics change, which is called physiological secretions.

Abnormal main manifestations

1. Cheese-like discharge or tofu-like leucorrhea-like discharge: It is candidal vaginitis, often accompanied by severe vulvar itching or burning pain.

2. The discharge is thinner, light green, sticky and has a foul odor, which is characteristic of candidal vaginitis and is accompanied by vulvar itching.

3. Grayish white, thin, fishy-smelling discharge is a characteristic of bacterial infection of the vagina, accompanied by mild itching in the private parts.

4. Tofu-like leucorrhea: slightly yellow or yellow-green, sticky, and often has an odor. It is caused by bacterial infection. This can be seen in gonorrhea Neisseria vaginitis, acute cervicitis and endocervicitis, vaginal cancer or cervical cancer with high incidence of concurrent infection. Uterine pyometra or foreign body residue in the female vagina can also cause leucorrhea with curd residue.

6. Brown leucorrhea: thinner vaginal discharge like water sample or rice water, with fishy smell, commonly seen in late stage cervical cancer, vaginal cancer or submucosal uterine fibroids with infection. Intermittent discharge of clear, yellow-red or reddish-brown leucorrhea should be considered as a possible cervical adenocarcinoma.

7. Bloody leucorrhea: The secretion is stained with blood, and the number of blood streaks varies. Cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cysts, cervical columnar epithelial cell disorder and infection, or uterine submucosal uterine fibroids should be considered. Insertion of an IUD can also cause bloody leucorrhea.
