How to judge whether it is amniotic fluid leakage

For pregnant women, amniotic fluid is an important thing for the baby's survival. It not only protects the baby, but is also indispensable for the baby to maintain life. For women who are approaching their due date, they should be particularly careful in observation. If the amniotic fluid breaks, it is a sign of delivery. However, if the amniotic fluid flows out for a long time, it can easily lead to too little amniotic fluid, causing the baby to suffocate. So how do you judge whether it is amniotic fluid leakage?

How to judge the leakage of amniotic fluid in pregnant women

Normal amniotic fluid looks similar to urine and is very clear. If the amniotic fluid leaks, it will flow out uncontrollably from our body, and the amniotic fluid will be colorless and odorless.

When the amniotic fluid flows out, if the amount is large, there will be a warm feeling and it is relatively clear. We cannot control it artificially. When the amount is small, there will always be a wet feeling, like urination, but it is not under our control like urine, and it is continuous. This is the symptom of amniotic fluid leakage.

What does it feel like when your water breaks?

After the amniotic fluid breaks, the expectant mother can feel liquid flowing out of the vagina. Careful observation can reveal that the liquid is colorless and transparent, and the amount is larger than secretions, like water.

In addition, you can also feel that the outflow of liquid is uncontrolled. When the amount is large, it will feel warm; when the amount is small, it may feel a little wet, like urination, and it will flow out continuously, and even the pregnant woman cannot control it by contracting her vagina.

It is normal for amniotic fluid to break before delivery, and the incidence rate accounts for about 6%-12% of the total births. The breaking of amniotic fluid often causes symptoms such as premature birth, fetal hypoxia, and fetal infection. Therefore, when you feel the water breaking, it is best to go to the hospital as soon as possible to prepare for delivery.

The amniotic fluid will usually break automatically before the expectant mother gives birth, but some expectant mothers may experience premature breaking of the amniotic fluid. All expectant mothers must pay attention to this situation to avoid affecting the delivery.

What does it feel like when your water breaks?

The exact feeling of your water breaking varies from person to person.

Normal amniotic fluid and urine look similar and are very clear. If the water breaks, it will flow out uncontrollably. Amniotic fluid is colorless and odorless. When the amniotic fluid flows out, if the amount is large, it will feel warm and clear, which cannot be controlled by humans. When the amount is small, you will always feel a little wet, like urinating, but it is out of your control and is continuous.

However, vaginal secretions will increase in the later stages of pregnancy, which does not necessarily mean that water has broken. Generally, when the water breaks, you will feel a sudden flow of water out of the vagina. When the fetal head descends and blocks the cervical opening, the flow of water will decrease, but some water will still flow out as the pregnant woman moves. Therefore, it is best to go to the hospital and let the doctor check. If it is indeed water breaking, you can't wait any longer and must be hospitalized for delivery. If water breaking is not treated for a long time, it can easily cause uterine infection. Some people's water breaks before their due date.
