What is the difference between mammography and breast ultrasound?

Breast diseases have now become a common and frequently occurring disease among women. The prevention of breast diseases must be done well, because it is directly related to women's breast health. The importance of breasts to women is obvious. Even if there is no discomfort in daily life, breast examination once a year is essential. Many early breast diseases have no clinical manifestations.

When it comes to breast examination, there are two indispensable methods of breast examination, namely breast ultrasound examination and breast mammography examination. Many patients do not understand the difference between the two tests and think that mammography is just an advanced form of breast ultrasound. In fact, this is not the case. Breast B-ultrasound and breast molybdenum target are the two most basic basic auxiliary breast examinations, which are two completely different examination methods.

The differences between mammography and ultrasound are as follows:

1. The inspection principles are different. Breast B-ultrasound uses ultrasound technology, while breast molybdenum target uses X-ray technology. Simply put, B-ultrasound is more sensitive to lumps, and molybdenum target is more sensitive to thickening.

2. The effects of the tests on the human body are different. The advantages of breast ultrasound examination are low price, minimally invasive and painless, repeated examination and no radiation. Breast mammography has a certain personal radiation dose. Frequent examinations are very harmful to the human body and are also expensive. But there is no problem in checking it once a year.

3. The symptoms examined are different. Breast mammography can generally detect a variety of breast diseases, such as breast hyperplasia, breast fibroids, breast cysts, hard lumps that cannot be touched clinically, nipple discharge, etc. It can also detect breast tumors at their early stages. Especially for primary thickening breast tumors with a diameter of less than 1 cm, B-ultrasound cannot detect them, but molybdenum target can.

Breast ultrasound examination is mainly used to identify the characteristics of women's breast lumps and distinguish whether they are cystic or solid lumps. B-ultrasound can also display the tiny structures inside the breast. For high-density breasts that cannot be detected by mammography, it can help exclude tumors.

4. The suitable groups are different. For young women, ultrasound is the preferred examination method and can be repeated. For women over 40 years old and young women who are suspected of breast cancer, breast ultrasound and breast mammography are indispensable. The specific examination method should be arranged by the doctor. As a patient, you may have questions, but you must follow the doctor's advice.
