Can I eat bayberry during late pregnancy?

Everyone should know or have eaten the fruit bayberry, which can be used as both a fruit and a medicinal material. Its roots and bark have the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis and relieving pain, while its fruit has the effects of promoting salivation and quenching thirst and stimulating appetite. Everyone knows that pregnant women have some dietary taboos during pregnancy. Eating the wrong food may affect the development of the fetus. So can you eat bayberry in the late pregnancy? Let me introduce it to you below.

Pregnant women can eat bayberry. No adverse effects of bayberry on pregnant women have been found so far, and bayberry is suitable for the general public. Therefore, pregnant women can eat bayberry in moderation, which is beneficial to the body and not harmful. Pregnant women with high blood sugar are advised to eat less bayberry because it contains a high sugar content. In addition, since bayberry is relatively sour, you should not eat too much at one time, otherwise your teeth will become sour or it may cause excessive stomach acid, causing physical discomfort to pregnant women. At the same time, pregnant women should also pay attention to the method of eating bayberry. The fruit season of bayberry is very short. It is not easy to store and it is easy to rot. Therefore, pregnant women are reminded to pay attention to the freshness of bayberry when purchasing it. They must eat fresh bayberry, otherwise they are prone to diarrhea.

Dietary considerations for late pregnancy:

(1) Pay attention to the intake of high-quality protein. In the late pregnancy, the mother's uterus, breasts and placenta enlarge, and about 375 grams of protein needs to be stored, which is the period when the most protein is stored. The weight of the fetus increases from 1000 grams at 28 weeks to about 3000 grams at 40 weeks, and this is also the period when protein storage is the highest. For this reason, China recommends that the protein intake in the late pregnancy be increased by 25 grams per day on the original basis.

(2) Energy supply. Generally, the supply should not be lower than that in the second trimester. However, during the last two weeks of pregnancy, the intake of calories such as fat and carbohydrates should be appropriately limited to prevent the fetus from growing too large and affecting delivery.

(3) Supply of minerals and vitamins. In the late stages of pregnancy, the fetal liver stores iron at a rate of 5 mg per day, and by the time of birth the storage amount can reach 300 to 400 mg. If pregnant women do not take in enough iron, it may affect the iron storage in the fetus, making the fetus more susceptible to iron deficiency anemia after delivery. The calcium requirement increases significantly in the late pregnancy. In addition to the increase in maternal calcium reserves, more than half of the calcium in the fetus is stored in the last two months. The Chinese Nutrition Society recommends a daily calcium intake of 1,500 mg. The supply of vitamins should also be increased appropriately.

(4) Eat small meals frequently and pay attention to your food choices. In the late pregnancy, due to the growth of the fetus and the pressure of the uterus on the stomach, the pregnant woman's food intake decreases. She often feels full after eating less food, but it does not actually meet the body's nutrient needs. Therefore, the dietary organization during this period should choose foods that are small in size and high in nutritional value, such as animal foods, and reduce foods that are low in nutritional value and large in size, such as potatoes and sweet potatoes. It is advisable to eat less or no pure energy foods such as sugar, honey and other sweets to prevent reducing appetite and affecting the intake of nutrients such as protein.
