What to do if you have edema in the eighth month of pregnancy

The whole process of pregnancy for women is very difficult and painful. They need to endure many physical and physiological changes, such as morning sickness, gradually enlarging belly, etc., which will bring many changes to their lives. Edema is also a phenomenon that many pregnant women will encounter during pregnancy. If a pregnant mother experiences severe edema in the eighth month of pregnancy, it will definitely cause inconvenience to her life. So is there any way to reduce the swelling?

1. Sit with your feet raised above your heart

Edema is mainly caused by poor blood circulation due to compression of blood vessels by the pregnant fetus. Foot swelling is common. The main reason is that the feet are far away from the human heart, and the blood from the arteries cannot return to the heart, so excessive fluid accumulation in the feet causes edema. A simple method is to sit with your feet raised above your heart.

2. Lie on your side for a while

As your pregnancy progresses, your own blood circulation plus the baby's blood circulation will increase the workload on your heart, and your feet and calves will become swollen, especially in the afternoon or after sitting or standing for a long time. It is recommended to lie down or lie on your back for a while, which will feel better, but you cannot deliberately reduce your water intake, as that may cause or aggravate the occurrence of hemorrhoids.

3. Eat more foods that are good for your body

Winter melon, watermelon juice and other fruits are rich in potassium and fructose that cannot be used quickly by the body, which can reduce the water content in the body; fish, old duck and other foods can improve swelling caused by physical weakness. In order to reduce the intake of sodium salt (salt, soy sauce, pickled food), the cooking method should preferably replace the general frying and deep-frying. This is a detumescent and nourishing food that can not only make the body lighter, but also improve appetite.

4. Go to the hospital for a checkup

There are physiological and pathological reasons for swelling in pregnant women. The most common pathological reasons include kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, etc. If the above methods do not work or the swelling is severe, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for a specific examination.
