Can I take a shower half a month after giving birth?

Traditionally, it is believed that women should not take a bath during the confinement period after giving birth. With the development of the new era, people are gradually eliminating this concept. But it is undeniable that traditional ideas still make sense. After giving birth, women are in very poor physical condition and are in the recovery period. If they do not pay attention to maintenance, wound infection is very likely to occur. If it is half a month after a normal delivery, you can take a bath appropriately, but be careful to control the time and avoid bathing with raw water.

After giving birth, new mothers will sweat a lot, have lochia, and vaginal wounds. During this recovery period, new mothers must pay attention to physical hygiene and health care, and must not stick to traditional views and provide incorrect care. If you had an episiotomy during a normal birth, you can take some protein powder to help the wound heal faster. Generally, you can wash your hair and take a bath after the short confinement period, which is 12 days. But be sure to control the time well. Half an hour is best, otherwise you will easily suffer from hypoxia.

Natural childbirth has fewer postpartum complications. The tearing wounds caused by natural childbirth will usually heal within 3-5 days after delivery. The recovery speed is relatively faster than that of cesarean section, and the pain usually disappears in about 1-2 weeks. However, nursing work should not be taken lightly. The first thing to do is to prevent infection: rinse with warm water twice a day. To prevent wound contamination, do not wipe from back to front after defecation, but from front to back, and rinse again; pay attention to changing sanitary pads frequently to avoid getting them wet and soaking the wound.

Gynecologists recommend taking a "warm water sitz bath" 24 hours after a natural birth, which means taking a sitz bath in a basin of water with the water temperature at about 41°C-43°C. About 3-4 times a day, 10-15 minutes each time, until the wound heals. While the wound is still healing, warm water is gentler and less irritating, and can prevent bacteria from entering the uterus with the water and causing inflammation.

When the wound becomes swollen, painful, indurated, and has purulent secretions when squeezed, you should take antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor and remove the stitches to facilitate the discharge of pus.

1. When the wound is edematous, the sutures are tied too tightly before they are removed, and the pain continues. You can use 95% alcohol gauze or 50% magnesium sulfate solution for local hot compresses or wet compresses twice a day.

2. Use 1:5,000 potassium permanganate warm water sitz bath twice a day for 10-15 minutes each time, or use heat-clearing, detoxifying and knot-dispersing Chinese herbal decoction to clean the wound.

3. Raise your hips when lying down to facilitate blood flow and reduce edema. It is best to eat a residue-free diet within one week after the operation, that is, foods low in fiber, such as milk, to prevent the formation of hard stools which is not conducive to the healing of the perineal incision.
