Can I breastfeed if I have a mild cold?

Many women are relatively fragile during the breastfeeding period. At this time, the resistance of women's bodies is particularly low, and they are prone to catching colds. Because the nutrients in the bodies of breastfeeding women are fed to their children through breast milk, the mother's own nutrition becomes relatively weak, which makes it very likely that they will get sick. So, can you breastfeed if you have a mild cold?

During pregnancy and after childbirth, I believe every mother has some confusion and doubts. For example, a common cold can be a real headache for a new mother. If I have a cold, my resistance will be reduced. Can I still continue to breastfeed my baby? I heard that if you have a cold, the quality of breast milk will decrease?

Women in the postpartum period sweat easily, and coupled with their low immunity and the busy and tiring work after delivery, it is very common for them to catch a cold. Therefore, mothers are afraid to take medicine for fear that the ingredients in the medicine may be bad for the baby, and they are also more worried that they will pass the cold to the baby.

In fact, catching a cold during breastfeeding is not as scary as we imagined. If it is just a mild cold without fever symptoms, mothers only need to drink more water, eat light food, and take some cold granules or isatis root powder to relieve the symptoms. In this way, breastfeeding can be normal. For safety reasons, it is better to wear a mask when interacting with children.

However, if the cold is very serious and there is a high fever, the mother needs to take antibiotics and it is best to stop breastfeeding for a day or two. Remember to express the breast milk every day during the period of stopping breastfeeding! Drink more hot water, have a good rest, and believe that your mother’s powerful energy will help you recover soon.

Theoretically, catching a cold during breastfeeding will not directly affect the quality of breast milk, but if you use medication, especially antibiotics purchased by some mothers on their own, it will affect the baby through breast milk. Therefore, mothers should not act as doctors when they have a cold. If they need to take medicine, they must consult a doctor first.
