What should women with swollen legs check

Leg swelling is a common symptom among women. There are generally five causes of leg swelling, namely renal, hepatic, cardiac, premenstrual syndrome, and myxedema. It can be seen that there are many reasons for women's leg edema. If you want to completely treat this symptom, advanced examination is essential. Generally speaking, women with swollen legs need to do urine routine and renal function tests, and also need to measure albumin and plasma protein.

1. What should women check for swollen legs?

1. Urinalysis and renal function test

If the leg swelling is very severe, the first thing you should recommend is a urine protein test, as well as a urine red blood cell and tubular examination. If the test results show only mild urine protein, the female friend may be a patient with heart failure; if the urine protein is persistent and severe, the female friend may be a patient with nephrotic syndrome.

2. Determination of albumin and plasma protein

If the test results show that a woman's plasma protein is lower than 55 grams per liter, or the albumin is lower than 23 grams per liter, it means that the woman's plasma colloidal osmotic pressure is reduced. The test results show that the woman may have cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome, or of course, it may also be caused by malnutrition.

2. Reasons for women's swollen legs

1. Nephrogenic: Kidney disease leads to reduced renal filtration, reduced urine, and water accumulation in the body. In addition, kidney disease limits the elimination of sodium, causing water and sodium retention. In kidney disease, protein output increases, protein content in the blood decreases, and a large amount of body fluid in the plasma penetrates into the body cavity outside the blood vessels.

2. Hepatic: In patients with hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer, due to abnormal liver metabolic protein, the total protein content in the blood is reduced, and water in the blood seeps into the body cavity.

3. Cardiogenic: This is a type of systemic edema. The cause of the disease is poor cardiac ejection. A large amount of blood returning to the heart remains in the veins, and the hydrostatic pressure increases and seeps into the body cavity.

4. Premenstrual syndrome: occurs before women's menstruation and is related to the female hormones in their bodies.

5. Myxedema: often occurs in patients with hypothyroidism. There are others such as nutritional edema, angioneurotic edema, etc.

3. What to do if your legs are swollen

1. Foot bath

This method can effectively reduce leg swelling. You can soak your feet in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes and use the principle of osmotic pressure to effectively improve the problem of leg swelling. Of course, you can add an appropriate amount of rice wine, salt, or ginger juice to the foot bath water. The raw materials can promote blood circulation and speed up the metabolism of excess water in the body, thereby achieving the purpose of reducing swelling.

2. Handstand

In fact, this is a very good way to allow blood to flow back to the legs. Handstand is a good way to speed up blood circulation in the lower limbs. If you don't change your habits, you can also lie flat on the bed and do cycling exercises before going to bed. Whether it is a handstand or cycling, you must persist for more than half an hour, so that the effect will be more obvious.
