Why do women have cold stomachs?

Why do women have cold stomachs?

In life, many women's lower abdomens are often cold, whether in winter or summer, women's lower abdomens are particularly cold. In fact, a cold lower abdomen is a manifestation of uterine coldness. A cold lower abdomen will definitely cause abdominal pain during menstruation, so you can eat some uterine warming foods. So why is a woman's abdomen cold?

In fact, the saying "uterine cold" has a long history. What is uterine cold? In a narrow sense, it refers to the symptoms that women feel that their lower abdomen is cold, or feel the temperature is low when touching their lower abdomen, and feel comfortable after warming it with a hot water bottle; in a broad sense, patients not only have the symptoms of cold lower abdomen, but also more systemic symptoms, such as chills, cold limbs, delayed menstruation, small or dark menstruation, clear or heavy leucorrhea, soreness of waist and knees, frequent urination, lack of libido, dysmenorrhea, etc. In addition, some diseases may also manifest as "uterine cold" at the same time, such as partial ovulation disorders, infertility, fetal growth retardation, hydatidiform mole, etc. It can be seen from this that the meaning of "uterine cold" is very broad and involves many diseases.

Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes syndrome differentiation. Since the term "uterine cold" has been used for thousands of years, it must have its own mechanism. Why does "uterine cold" occur? What are the causes? There are external and internal factors.

Common external factors include: liking to eat cold drinks, or catching a cold during menstruation due to rain or wading in water; abortion causing the cold evil to invade directly from the lower part of the human body; using antibiotics for too long; taking heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs for a long time which damages the body's yang energy and causes the cold evil to invade the body. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "cold causes contraction", which causes meridian stagnation and obstruction of Qi and blood circulation, resulting in local or whole-body chills.

Recently, there are a lot of patients visiting the outpatient clinic due to "uterine cold". According to observation, internal factors play a dominant role in the formation of "uterine cold". The most common is kidney yang deficiency. The human kidneys contain kidney yin and kidney yang. Kidney yang, also known as Yuan Yang, warms the body. It is the warmth of kidney yang that prevents the lower abdomen from feeling cold and the function of "kidney controlling reproduction" can be realized, which is manifested as: the follicles can develop normally, the sperm and egg can combine smoothly, and the fertilized egg can implant and grow and develop in the warm uterus. On the contrary, if the kidney yang is deficient and the body is cold, the reproductive function will be low, just as the ancients said, "No grass grows in a cold water area, and no fish or dragons grow in a deep yin area." Such patients are prone to fetal growth retardation.

In a sense, the "uterine cold" mentioned in traditional Chinese medicine cannot be simply understood as the uterus being cold. It refers to the weakened function of the entire internal reproductive organs including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. It is precisely because of this that the "uterine cold" mentioned in traditional Chinese medicine appears to be rich in connotation. "Palace" refers to the female reproductive system and involves the whole body; "cold" refers to the patient's conscious symptoms and can be understood as poor function of the body. The unique theory of traditional Chinese medicine highlights its unique charm, which is also the source of the development of traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years.
