What if I haven't had my period for three months and I'm not pregnant?

Many people think that the absence of menstruation is actually a sign of pregnancy, but it is not necessarily related to pregnancy. If you have not had your period for about three months, you should consider the factor of amenorrhea, which also includes endocrine disorders in the body or previous surgery. These are all reasons that lead to irregular menstruation.

Pathogenesis

Common causes of missed menstruation

Modern medicine divides amenorrhea into primary and secondary. Primary amenorrhea refers to the absence of menstruation after the age of 18. Common causes include congenital anatomical abnormalities, chromosomal abnormalities, endocrine disorders, malnutrition, etc. Secondary amenorrhea refers to the situation where menstruation occurs, but due to some factors, the menstruation stops for more than three cycles.

Causes of amenorrhea: Common causes include systemic diseases, such as anemia, nephritis, tuberculosis, endocrine disorders, ovarian abnormalities, sequelae of artificial abortion, etc. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that there are multiple causes of amenorrhea, such as blood loss, multiple births, sexual fatigue, excessive worry, depression, cold and dampness, etc. Its syndrome differentiation can be divided into two categories: "deficiency" and "excess".

"Deficiency syndrome" is mostly caused by insufficient yin blood, or even exhaustion, the blood sea is empty and there is no blood to flow down, which is mainly caused by insufficient qi and blood and kidney deficiency. The treatment is mainly to regulate and tonify the spleen and kidney. When qi and blood are sufficient, menstruation will come on time. "Excess syndrome" amenorrhea is mainly caused by obstruction of the meridians by excess evil, which prevents menstrual blood from flowing downward.

The most common causes are qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm dampness, and cold dampness. Patients often feel that their menstruation is coming but not coming, and they experience discomfort such as lower abdominal distension and pain, breast swelling, and back pain.

Abortion causes amenorrhea

Clinical studies have found that many female friends will experience menstruation problems after undergoing abortion surgery, and some female friends will also experience symptoms of lower abdominal pain.

This is mainly because improper curettage damages the cervix or the basement membrane of the endometrium, causing adhesions of the internal os of the cervix or partial adhesions of the uterine wall, which in turn leads to amenorrhea. In this way, even if there are cyclical changes in the endometrium, the menstrual blood cannot flow out and is retained in the uterine cavity, causing cyclical lower abdominal pain. Clinically, it is called secondary amenorrhea. For milder cervical adhesions, a probe can be used to separate them, while severe cervical or uterine adhesions require surgical separation. To prevent adhesions, an intrauterine device can be inserted after the operation. For excessively atrophied endometrium, artificial cycles can be used for treatment for half a year, which may restore the ability to conceive. However, miscarriage, premature birth, etc. often occur after pregnancy.

Therefore, women who are pregnant for the first time must pay full attention to abortion. If they find out they are pregnant, they should seek medical attention in time and try to get a medical abortion as early as possible to avoid adhesions from the curettage. If newlyweds are not materially and mentally prepared for pregnancy, they must attach great importance to contraception in advance.
