Why do I feel pain on the first day of menstruation?

Women have a menstrual period of about a week every month. This period is quite painful for many women because they suffer from dysmenorrhea. However, many female friends have also discovered that dysmenorrhea does not always last. On the contrary, it only lasts on the first day, or even only half a day, which puzzles many people. In fact, this is a normal process. If women encounter this situation, don’t panic. Here are some tips for dealing with dysmenorrhea on the first day.

There are two possible types of dysmenorrhea, one is primary dysmenorrhea and the other is secondary dysmenorrhea. The former refers to dysmenorrhea without organic lesions of the reproductive organs, while the latter is mostly caused by organic lesions of the reproductive organs, such as endometriosis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, poor menstrual blood drainage and tumors. It is recommended that you go to a regular hospital for examination and also strengthen physical exercise to improve your physical fitness.

What to do if you have dysmenorrhea on the first day of menstruation

1. Massage method. When you have dysmenorrhea, you can try to relieve it by massage. The specific method is as follows: Lie prone on the bed, completely relax your body, stretch your arms, and point your toes inward. Let a friend touch the upper pelvic ridge on your back and gently push towards your feet. Pay attention to the strength during the massage. It should be appropriate, not too strong or too weak. Too little strength will not relieve dysmenorrhea, and too much strength will compress the pelvis and injure the spine. Or you can use your thumb to press the acupoints on the navel for half a minute on each point; then lie on your back and use your right palm to massage the lower abdomen for about 3 minutes, and then push from the navel to the pubic symphysis for half an hour. This massage method is suitable to be started one week before menstruation, so that the effect will be ideal.

2. Diet. Treating dysmenorrhea through diet is a good method. During dysmenorrhea, you should maintain a balanced diet, avoid eating foods that are too sweet or too salty, and avoid eating foods containing caffeine, as they will make you nervous and easily lead to menstrual discomfort. Especially during dysmenorrhea, you should eat less or no caffeinated foods; eat more vegetables, fruits, chicken, fish, and eat some bananas properly, which can relieve abdominal pain and help stabilize your mood; drink a cup of hot milk with a spoonful of honey before going to bed to relieve the pain of dysmenorrhea.

3. Acupressure. Some acupressure points on the feet are connected to the qi pathways in the pelvic area. There are acupressure points in the depressions on both sides of the ankles. When you experience dysmenorrhea, gently pinch them with your thumb and other fingertips, then move up along the Achilles tendon to the calf muscles, alternating between your feet and applying pressure for several minutes on each side.
