What should I do if I have breast pain during my period?

Half of adult women will experience some uncomfortable pathological breast pain before and after menstruation. In fact, this is what we often call premenstrual syndrome. Breast pain is mainly caused by the increase in estrogen levels in women during menstruation. Generally, the pain will slowly disappear after the menstruation. Sometimes breast pain is unbearable and even affects work and life. In fact, these can be relieved through conditioning.

What should I do if I have breast pain during menstruation?

Changing your eating habits

Eat a low-fat, high-fiber diet, such as whole grains, vegetables, and beans.

Take vitamins

The diet should contain foods rich in vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and B vitamins. These vitamins help regulate the production of prostaglandin E, which in turn inhibits the effects of prolactin. Avoid margarine and other hydrogenated fats.

Wear a firm bra

The stabilizing bras worn by joggers can prevent further compression of already compressed breast nerves.

Keep Calm

When you are nervous, the adrenaline secreted by the adrenal glands will also interfere with the conversion function of GIA.

Cold compress

Some women find relief by soaking their hands in cold water and then holding them over their breasts.

Heat

Most women find breast pain relief with heat packs or hot baths, but some find alternating hot and cold compresses most effective.

Avoid caffeine

It has not been proven whether caffeine causes breast discomfort. But many women with breast pain and other benign symptoms experience significant improvement when they give up caffeine.

You really have to give up caffeine completely, which means completely giving up soda, chocolate, ice cream, and caffeinated painkillers.

Eat a light diet

High-salt foods can easily cause breast enlargement, and such foods should be avoided especially in the 7-10 days before menstruation.

Diuretics do help remove fluid from the body and can also reduce breast swelling. But this immediate relief comes at a price; excessive use of diuretics can lead to potassium loss, disrupt electrolyte balance, and affect glucose formation.

Changing birth control pills

When you're trying to improve benign breast changes, the estrogen content of your oral contraceptive may be helpful or harmful, depending on the condition of your breasts.

In general, birth control pills with low estrogen content may help fibroid and cystic conditions but may worsen fibromatosis, which is a solid mass that is usually movable.

Keeping a slim figure

For obese women, losing weight can help relieve breast pain and swelling. In women, fat acts like another gland, producing and storing estrogen.

If you have excess body fat, you may have excess estrogen circulating in your body. Breast tissue is very sensitive to hormones.

Massage Relief

Some women gently massage their breasts to return excess fluid to the lymphatic system.

Method: First apply soap on the breast and rotate your fingers along the surface of the breast. Make a circle about the size of a coin, and then use your hands to press the breast in and bounce it up.

Relief with castor oil

Apply castor oil to your breasts to relieve breast inflammation. This method helps treat minor breast infections and includes castor oil, cotton cloth, a plastic bag, and a hot compress. Fold the cotton cloth into four layers and soak it with castor oil, but don't make it too wet to avoid dripping. Apply the cloth to your breasts, cover with a plastic bag, and then put a hot pack on top. Set the heat pack to a temperature you can tolerate and leave it on for one hour.

Castor oil compressed at low temperature contains a substance that can enhance the function of T11 lymphocytes. This function speeds up recovery from various infections. You may have to use this compress for 3-7 days before you see any effects. This method is usually effective in relieving pain.

Precautions during menstruation

It is best to eat light food before menstruation. Regardless of your physical condition, the principles that should be followed before menstruation are roughly the same.

In the week before your period, you can take advantage of the following natural diet to regulate your body and avoid problems such as dysmenorrhea, abnormal menstrual flow, and irregular menstrual cycles.

Suitable for eating

Brown rice, germ rice, meat, offal, almonds, etc. that are rich in B vitamins and iron, and yellow-green vegetables, guava, orange, lemon, walnuts, wheat, etc. that contain vitamin C and E.

B vitamins and iron can prevent abdominal cramps during menstruation. Vitamins C and E can prevent lower abdominal pain caused by pelvic congestion.

Not suitable for eating

1. Stimulating food

Eating foods that are too spicy, too salty, too oily, or other strong, irritating foods can make menstrual cramps more likely.

2. Cold foods

Ice water and cold fruits such as mangoes and bananas can cause too little menstrual flow.

3. If you have a hot constitution, drinking hot soup, hot drinks and hot tonic foods often will increase your menstrual flow.

Dietary supplements during and after menstruation for different body types

According to the amount of menstrual flow

1. For those with excessive menstrual flow: If the total menstrual flow is more than 150cc, the sanitary napkin needs to be changed approximately every 1 to 2 hours.

During menstruation

Please note: It is absolutely forbidden to use food supplements indiscriminately. You should ask your doctor to prescribe medicine or match appropriate meals according to your physical condition.

2. For those with light menstrual flow: If the total menstrual flow is less than 50 c, c, one sanitary napkin may be enough per day.

During menstruation

Suitable for eating: warm tonic foods, such as pork liver, red wine, spinach, red dates, ginger soup, mulberry, day lily, etc., for example, pork kidney boiled with sesame oil and a small amount of wine.

Not suitable to eat: raw and cold foods, such as ice cream, oranges, melons, etc.
