How long does it take to recover from breast cancer surgery?

According to a survey, 90 percent of women in China suffer from breast diseases to varying degrees. Breast hyperplasia is a common benign tumor and surgery is not necessary if it is small. Breast fibroids, breast cysts and breast cancer require surgery in the early stages. Surgery means some degree of trauma. How long does it take to recover from breast tumor surgery?

How long to recover: After breast surgery, women should be observed in the hospital for three days and receive antibiotic treatment. After being discharged from the hospital and returning home, they should continue to rest at home for about a week. This will allow the wound to heal better and restore health as soon as possible.

Check regularly. Since breast duct adenomas have the potential to become malignant, timely check-ups at the hospital can help control the condition. Generally speaking, patients should go to the hospital for a check-up about every three months. Of course, you can also do some simple checks on your own at ordinary times.

There are many types of breast tumors, and each type has different treatment methods. The following introduces the types of breast tumors and related treatments:

(1) Cystic breast hyperplasia: Cystic breast hyperplasia refers to the epithelial hyperplasia of the milk ducts or alveoli and the expansion of the milk ducts or the formation of cysts in the hyperplastic epithelium. This disease often occurs in women around 40 years old, but young women and elderly women can also suffer from it. The time from onset to medical treatment varies, with the shortest being only a few days and the longest being more than ten years. The main symptom of this disease is the mass, which can manifest in four different ways:

1. Single mass: mostly caused by large cysts, with clear boundaries and can be moved freely, and can often be identified as a cyst. Unless the cyst has too much content, the tension is too high, or the mass is deep and is mistaken for being solid. The contents of the cyst are mostly clear, but if there is infection, the contents will become turbid. If it causes adhesion of surrounding tissues, the nipple may retract when it is close to the nipple.

2. Multiple lumps: caused by multiple cysts, palpation is multiple cystic nodules, which may involve the entire breast.

3. Segmental breast nodules: These nodules are mostly triangular in shape, with the base at the edge of the breast and the tip pointing to the nipple.

4. Nipple discharge (bloody or serous): There is no obvious positive finding in breast examination, but pressing certain parts of the breast periphery (equivalent to one or several mammary lobes) may cause discharge from one or several milk ducts.

Traditional Chinese medicine is used to soothe the liver and regulate qi, resolve phlegm and dredge the meridians, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and Western medicine hormone treatment is used. If the effect is not good, the tumor can be removed and a pathological examination can be performed. The principle of excision is to excise the lesion area. If the lesion is extensive, total breast removal may be appropriate. If cancer is found in pathological examination after surgery, radical surgery will be performed.

(2) Breast fibroids: Breast fibroids are the most common benign tumors in young women. Most of them are painless tumors and are often discovered accidentally. They are small in the early stage but grow rapidly. When they are up to 3 cm long, they grow slowly or stop growing. They are round or oval in shape with clear boundaries. They are mostly protruding, and flat ones are rare. The surface is not very smooth. They feel like small nodules when touched carefully. Some are obviously lobed. They are moderately hard, mostly non-tender, and can be moved freely.

Surgical removal of breast fibroids is effective. However, breast fibroids can recur, and after one surgical removal, they can recur in other parts of the breast. If new breast fibroids continue to appear, surgery will be difficult to continue and patients often refuse surgical treatment. At this time, you can try androgen treatment. Start taking testosterone orally one week after menstruation stops and end before the next menstruation starts. Take a small dose daily, and the total amount should not exceed 100 mg. During treatment, the menstrual cycle should not be disrupted.

(3) Large duct papilloma of the breast: Large duct papilloma of the breast refers to a papilloma that occurs in a section of the milk duct from the duct opening to about 1 cm below the ampulla. Single attacks are the most common, and multiple attacks are rare. Clinically, breast examination may present with three conditions: nipple discharge, pain, and palpable mass. Cytological examination of nipple discharge smear may reveal red blood cells and epithelial cells, and sometimes tumor cells, but it is often not possible to determine whether they are benign or malignant.
